Anyone done some statistical analysis or remaining fixture analysis of the games remaining?

We have to go to Arsenal, Chelsea, Southampton and have Spurs, City, Man Utd coming to us.

That's 6 games, where if we can manage 10 points, that would be great

From the remaining 11 games, if we can manage 25, that leaves us with 67.

Will that make 4th? This season I think so.

Still waiting for Southampton tail off, and Man Utd have a very tough March and April I believe.

Thoughts?

Read somewhere that the points per game for 4th place this season a lot lower than last season, just under 2 Points per game. So yeah 68 / 67 might just be enough.

18 games to go & we're 5 points adrift. That doesn't sound too much but we also have to outperform 5 other sides in making up those 5 points. 5th, 5 points off 4th is one thing. 8th & 5 points off is another.

Thankfully 18 is a lot of games & can't see WHU or Swansea keeping up; can see Sot'on dropping off so based on that - if it comes to fruition - would mean 2 spots for us, a***, Spurs & the Mancs - and anyone else who fancies making a challenge.

As we've seen with the Mancs, 5 straight wins changes a lot

Yeah but sadly we let teams like Leicester throw a spanner in the works.

That was our Aston Villa game of this season though in reverse.

We also had Sunderland and Hull at home.

So overall that's a home defeat against Villa and home draws against Sunderland, Hull & Leicester. 9 absurd points to have dropped. You could also chuck in the last minute pair of points we dropped against Everton.

We've only won 4 of our 11 home games so far. It's dreadfully poor and needs to improve massively.

How were the two points dropped in the last minute against Everton 'absurd'?

Just from the perspective that we were seconds away from banking all 3.

But if you actually read it again, you'll see I referred to 9 absurdly dropped points - Villa, Sunderland, Hull & Leicester.

I then mentioned Everton, but separate from the 'absurd' 9pts.

Southampton are starting to worry me. Apart from the blip between 24th Nov & 13th Dec, they're pretty consistent regardless of who they've played.

i think we overhaul West Ham, Spurs and Soton and fight it out with Utd for 4th

I reckon it's us or arsenal for 4th still and they've got city away next so the gap should hopefully only be a point after next weekend. But ultimately we tend to have stronger 2nd halves of the season in recent years and we've got one of the best strikers in the league about to return so I'm reasonably confident atm. The main worry is the sheer length of time arsenal have finished in the top 4, they seem to always make it one way or another. Well that and us having no decent keeper or fit strikers ha.

If we don't get it, hope Southampton get in. If it's arsenal, mancs for 3rd and 4th, we'll find it hard to get back in.

In fact, hope we get 3rd, Southampton 4th. ;-)

And yet is still wrong in every aspect.

That really takes some doing.

Just looking at the fixtures of the teams around us and United have a very tricky run during the crucial part of the season

15/3 Spurs (h)

22/3 Us (a)

4/4 Villa (h)

11/4 City (h)

18/4 Chelsea (a)

25/4 Everton (a)

If we're within 2 or 3 points of them come mid-March you'd fancy us to overtake them by the end of April. Our next 5 games are huge for us though with West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Southampton and City coming up. We could gain a bit of ground on the other challengers for 4th if we can pick up points off them.

4th is a depressing thing to be aiming at isn't it? I want title challenges.

We don't deserve to finish above Arsenal or United after our appalling last 3, soon to be 4 transfer windows.

I hope we don't, to teach our owners a lesson. I then hope they heed this lesson and sack Ian Ayre, not Brendan Rodgers, and start doing things in a smarter way.

Fly at the title next season with 1 great player at each end of the pitch signed over the summer.

Arsenal have had quite a lot of s*** transfer windows on the trot. If you took Sanchez out of the equation, they've not bought anyone good for a really long time. They made such a b******s of the last transfer window that they went into last season with Giroud and Sanogo as their only strikers.

F*ck thinking about them in any detail.

They're around the same level as us, they bought better and should finish higher. I just want to give FSG a jolt.
