Both awarded the CBE for their efforts over the 25 years fighting the deceit, mendacity and lies. Quite a few people expressing disgust that they've accepted the award from 'The establishment' who fought so hard to keep the lid on Hillsborough. Personally I wouldn't dream of making comment, if they're comfortable with it that's good enough me, I also think it will help put Duckenfield away with Bettison with any luck, what says the forum?

Such a shame Anne Wiiliams can't receive recognition posthumously too.

I think if people wish to comment they should, can't see anybody having a blazing row over this on here. I respect everybody's point of view on this.

No comment really.

I think some people might have strong opinions but I don't think a debate would be helpful.

No. You're right. I'll just say that people who have lost children are in positions that that people who haven't lost them can't understand. No one should judge them.

I don't think declining them would have done any good, much as part of me thinks everyone's response should be 'f*** off' when offered these.

As ever the offer is entirely political but much as it was 'The Establishment' that covered it all up it us ultimately only 'The Establishment' who can put it right, at least on a formal level.

These 'honours' are nothing to celebrate and would have been better timed if/when the verdicts have been overturned and the course of justice run. But it doesn't really work like that and all I'm really seeing this as is a reminder of how attitudes have changed, albeit something that on its own means nothing to me.

Worst thing would be for this to become in anyway devisive /a distraction from what really matters (and given all that has gone on there is still part of me wonders whether that is the intention) so whatever the reservations I say the response should be a cautious welcome.

Indeed. It's just a shame that this will be another divisive issue within the group.

I think people outside the club will see it as some sort of recognition, anyone close to the club knows that these people do not need any award for us to recognise the incredible work they (and others) have done.

I think it's positive in that it's establishment legitimisation of what they have been fighting for. Whether they want the awards or not, it's recognition that there is high level support for what they are doing.
