Alternatives to Sky TV

I'm going to get rid of Sky in the new year and am just weighing up my options. I've got super fast broadband with BT

 

The current front runner is BT TV, which I can just add Sky Sports to. There's a package which comes with Netflix which would be the one I go for. Can't get Virgin in my area.

 

What's the risk involved in going for one of those dodgy boxes that has got everything unlocked? I know you've got to change a code every time they manage to re-scramble it, but are they user-friendly enough and can you record with them?
