ok, time to regroup and look at what's wrong - plenty - who'll be back and what we do. The season starts now. The top 2 places are way out of reach, 15 off the top after 11 games is shocking.

Sturridge better be fit by the time we next play. Hopefully by then we'll be injury free & can consider Flanno & Sakho (the player who gets better the more he doesn't play).

Is BR going to wise up & see that if we continue like this we're seriously finishing about 10th

probably not, no lessons learned in 2.5 years, chances are there are going to be no lessons learned in the next 2 weeks. bad times. Defence will still be non-existant against Palace.

BR needs to find a way to get our best players onto the pitch, which means finding a way to play both Lallana and Coutinho in the same XI

Something like:

Can-Lucas

Sterling-Coutinho-Lallana

Sturridge

Although I worry that lacks solidity in midfield and doesn't quite suit the 3 behind Sturridge

I think that would be an excellent team. Wouldn't lack solidity with both Can (or Henderson) and Lucas in the midfield, and Manquillo/Flanagan (e.g. a fullback that actually doesn't mind defending) at right back.

Current projections of goals for and against for a 38 game season.

For 48

Against 52

2013/14

For 101

Against 50

So, we are still defending at the same abysmal level of last season but we now don't have the goals to compensate.

Sturridge returning will do us good but he's not a miracle worker.

My concern is that he's pissed about with the defence, trying several line-ups and changing them from game to game, in an area that requires stability

However, at the other end, Balotelli on his own isn't working and yet, there it is, game after game and in one he obviously highlighted as being extremely important.

If a defence does well against Real Madrid, why change half of it for Chelsea ? Why immediately switch back to that which didn't work against f***ing Newcastle when there's been very little time to prepare or make improvements in training ? And Henderson's an excellent player and a great lad but he's out of form and seems to be carrying an injury. One game rest isn't enough or fair on other players sat on the bench. Someone like Lallana, for instance, whom we prioritised during the summer and yet has started two of the last six.

It'd be marvelous if the international break could be used for defensive drills and set pieces but you wouldn't bet on it. Sktel made a poor decision to come for the corner they scored from. Was never going to get there and they headed the ball straight into the space / zone he'd vacated. We then have four or five players just stood watching as they take two or three more touches to score.

I mean - I've always hated international breaks - on the back of a win (or series of wins) you just want to keep it going, on the back of a defeat you want to get straight back on the horse.

This one I'm actually glad of because it gives me some f***ing relief

Imagine that team with Suarez instead of Babel /swoon

Although aging, still effective, imagine our MF options were now -

Gerrard

Masch

Xabi

Phil

Sterling

Can

Chuck Lucas & Allen in that mix...

we'd be ace

Ah, those were the days. I went into every game expecting them to smash the absolute f*** out of everyone. Apart from Babel obviously. He'd just kick the ball and run after it like a puppy.
