doug_mac Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 nice goal this 1000 career goals thing with pele is b****x if he scored 50 a season he would need 20 seasons to get 1000 theres no way he got 1000. messi scored his 400th goal recently at 27 years old. ronaldo probably hasnt even got 400 and hes 30 and these 2 guys are phenomenal goalscorers pele must be including all the goals he scored in training too

autumn319 Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 romario is said to have scored more than 1000 goals as well..
whitewidow Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Apparently Romario scored over a 1000 career goals
Swipe Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Pele must count all the ones he scored with his mates outside his house too.

New York Red Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Supposedly he scored 110 goals in 1961. Played 83 games in 1959 too. I don't buy it.
Cobs Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Maybe he was just quite good? How do you get away with making up your own appearances/goals record? It's not like he was the bloke keeping a running total that everyone asked for the figures.
New York Red Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I think it was the Brazilian FA and/or government. He was a pretty iconic figure that they really wanted to make a huge deal about. I think they had some law about him not being able to be sold to a team overseas too. Don't get me wrong, I think he was an awesome player. In the few times I saw him play, you could clearly tell he was very special.

You'd assume that even at an insane ratio of 1 goal/game, he'd have had to played an average of 60 games for 20 years.
whitewidow Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 :applause:/>Thanks. Glad someone was paying attention

RP Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Thanks. Glad someone was paying attention Needed a new thread started though (or maybe it was and someone edited/moderated it?)
whitewidow Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Needed a new thread started though (or maybe it was and someone edited/moderated it?)Yeah, I didn't quite have the balls to go full Romario
_00_deathscar Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 (edited) And? How many of his 1279 goals are you saying were made up? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pel%C3%A9 Has it listed as 'official' total vs 'total including friendlies', while at Santos. Oh, and he's not even no.1 - scrapes into top 5 http://en.wikipedia....ll_goal_scorers This ranking is based just by the RSSSF, which does count club and national goals and goals scored in friendly matches. RSSSF also counts matches in lower divisions as well as in club's amateur and reserve teams, junior national teams and in other selection teams like some Pelé's matches in military team.[1] Edited October 12, 2014 by _00_deathscar
realtarragona Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 No-one else's total includes friendlies etc so why should his It's still about 700-ish isn't so impressive all the same
Cobs Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 His career wasn't like anyone else's. He didn't get to play in Europe. He got dragged around the globe and generally exploited for the promotion/good of Brazil/Brazilian football. When he did get to compete as others do he was f*cking brilliant. The desire to denigrate the career of one of (if not) the all-time greats is weird.

autumn319 Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 Yeah, I didn't quite have the balls to go full Romarioa french humorist once said "an elegant man is a man who is able to play the bag pipe but does not play the bag pipe".
