fred milne Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Hopefully, Allen will be back for this. I'd go with something like this: MignoletManquillo Lovren Sakho MorenoHenderson Gerrard AllenMarkovic Balotelli Sterling Subs from Lambert, Borini, Lallana, Coutinho and Lucas.
New York Red Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 That's a battlers line up. Sounds right for West Ham and Stoke away.
Gravy Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 When is Skrtel back?? Sakho is giving me the jips badly!!
The Hitman Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 MignoletManquillo Lovren Sakho Moreno Gerrard Henderson Allen Sterling Borini Balotelli
Walrus Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 fred milne hoping Joe Allen is back. Well I never! I'd like to see more of Lallana here.
Mike Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 If we set up and play like last night and Saturday and it won't just be the colour blind who can't tell the difference between the teams.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 These are s****. Let's batter them
Cam Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Too early to be resting people... and most will sit out the 'Boro game anyway. Obviously, if Skrtel or Allen are fit then they come straight in. Coutinho dropped. MignoletManquillo Lovren Sakho MorenoHenderson Gerrard LucasSterling Balotelli Lallana To be kinda diamond-y at times. That said, I'm also tempted to just go Balotelli and Lambert up front.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 2 strikers pls. I'd give Lambert a start with Mario
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) MignoletManquillo Lovren Sakho Moreno Gerrard Henderson Allen Sterling Borini Balotelli Yeah, I'd go along with that too. West Ham were very narrow against Hull. It almost looked like a 4-2-2-2 with Downing and Zarate ahead of the 2 holding midfielders. It was a distinct shift by Allardyce as he normally likes players wide so that they have the angle to play the switch/diaganol into the box. If we did have a bit of width with Markovic and Sterling then we could drag them out of shape. However, I'm not convinced we'll see that set up from them on Saturday and I dont like what I saw in the last 2 games with Balotelli on his own. For that reason, I'd concentrate more on us and get us back to a shape that seems to help the players i.e. Sterling where he is effective, someone alongside Balotelli and energy either side of Gerrard. Candystore Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 2 strikers pls. I'd give Lambert a start with Mario Agree. He hasn't been given a chance yet.
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Don't think Lambert up front with Balotelli helps the issue of lack of intensity and movement in the final third. Borini deserves a chance given the balance of the team looked so much better with him next to Balotelli last night. Not always about getting the best eleven players on the pitch.
Earl Hafler Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Coutinho for Borini. Diamond midfield. Sterling behind the forwards. I'd like to see Lallana get another start under his belt and sub him for Allen during the second half. Allen and Lucas can start against Boro.
muleskinner Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 fred milne hoping Joe Allen is back. Well I never! I'd like to see more of Lallana here. We've missed Allen this last week.

Yeah, I'd go along with that. If we are breaking players into this team then it might be beneficial to break them in with a system the regulars seem very comfortable playing. The diamond does alot for Gerrard, Henderson, Allen and Sterling. Gerrard plays deep and can see the whole pitch.Allen and Henderson have great engines and very comfortable on the ball - their positions allow them to spend that energy in a midfield role that is a natural role for them whilst at the same time playing close to GerrardSterling is a very accomplished player in possession that can go either way. Get him on the ball. From what we've seen of Balotelli, he is certainly not lazy, if he was he would mope around the box. The fella is sometimes anywhere but the box so put someone else up there with him. Edited September 17, 2014 by Rory Fitzgerald
Andy-oh-six Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Allen and Borini in for Coutinho and Lallana and back to the diamond: legs in midfield around Stevie, Sterling at the tip of the diamond and support for Balotelli. Good options on the bench to change things if needed. Easy!

Yeah think last night suggested Rodgers won't want to pair Lambert with Mario for the reasons you've said. He'll get his chance with Borini or Sturridge.
David Hodgson Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Don't think there's any indications that Allen is even back in training yet. Could be a tricky selection this. Lucas could come in, but that's never a great option these days, or Phil stays part of the midfield, but hopefully plays, ya know, well. Then there's the two striker question. Truth is, for balance at the moment, and without Allen and Sturridge, it looks like Lucas and Borini start.
torn Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Borini seems to create space for Mario. WIll be needed against these.
