Redmen Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Please don’tkill me, but I’m worried! Rodgers has now been in charges for 2 years. I’mworried about his record in Player signings. I can onlythink of one signing we can be happy about. Sturridge! I know Coutinho is doingquite well at times….but a great signing is a bit too far…… The rest isjust awful….Borini, Assaidi, Sacko, Aspas, Alberto, Sahin, Mignolet, Toure,Cissoko, Illori, Moses, The signingsthis summer remains to be seen as do Allen…..but history is a bit dark……
Redmen Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 This place is great after a defeat. II wish youwould just have told me why I’m wrong ;-)

Aly did well for us and helped us finish 2nd. The other 2 didnt give a Damn. To Brendan's credit, he barely played them.Toure, Aspas, Assaidi were only ever squad players, bought when we had to wheel and deal with a budget not boosted by TV money or CL qualification. They played about a dozen games between them, most of which we actually won.Alberto and Ilori May still come good. Both are on 4 year contracts and are only in year 2 now.Mignolet is nowhere near a failure, Joe Allen is a class act.Borini has been disappointing for what we paid, but we almost made a profit on him this summer, and if he does go we won't make a massive loss.Sakho is a good player, IMO, who needs games with Lovren and two new full backs before he can be definitively written off. This summers buys will be very good for us. Because of injuries (lallana, Markovic, Johnson, Skrtel), World cup, late signings (Moreno, Manquillo, Balotelli) and internationals (Sturridge, Allen, Sterling, Henderson) we gave had no chance to settle yet. Poor result today, but Villa are a well drilled side who played well. In short? Man the f*** up. Edited September 13, 2014 by Case

Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 I still wouldn't be happy with the Sturridge fella yet what with his tender muscles straining every now and again.
Couldbe Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 He got the starting 11 wrong ... Hindsight wonderful thing

I'm not Mignolet's biggest fan but he is actually a good keeper. We have had better, but he is alright. Coutinho is a good player and we did well to get him Toure was a great defender a few years ago but now looks past it. As a free transfer he was worth the risk. Sahin was a good player who maybe did not suit the Premier league. Ilori will probably turn into a great defender. He is still young. Moses didn't have the attitude to succeed but he had the talent. It's not Brendan's fault he didn't apply himself. Other players mentioned were not that expensive and not all signings work out. All managers have some failures in the transfer market. Your whole post is basically wrong.
DJS Posted September 14, 2014 Posted September 14, 2014 (edited) He got the starting 11 wrong ... Hindsight wonderful thing Not jumping on any silly bandwagon about Rodgers needing to go or anything stupid like that, but it's not just hindsight. I'm sure plenty of us would've realised before the game that dropping Sterling for Villa (instead of Ludo) wasn't advisable. Likewise, starting with a front 3 who are all entirely new, not the best thing to do. Chucking in half a team & just expecting it to all gel was a bit naive, for me. Balancing it out, only 4 defeats in the calendar year so far, is excellent. But yesterday was dreadful, need to beat WHU & Everton to redress the balance and put us back on track. Hodgson for Chelsea Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 if sterling started and got injured missing 6 weeks we'd all have said he should have rested him because of hodgson running him into the ground. we had enough quality out there to beat villa, we just decided not to mark properly on set pieces and it cost us.
anfield Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Did anyone expect us to hit the ground running with so many new players? Madness.
RP Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 He got the starting 11 wrong ... Hindsight wonderful thing The eleven we started with are better players than Villa's.

So would you have played Johnson, Skrtel, Enrique, Stirrings and Allen to make sure we had some experience?
schmuckdonald Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I've got to think that dropping Sterling was because of some sports science thing. Has to be. When you're already missing Sturridge you don't willfully pull out your second best player for no good reason. No idea why Rodgers is so reticent to use the diamond, which has yielded the best results so far. Especially now we have actual full backs. Sterling running off Balotelli and Lambert causes more problems with options of Markovic and Lallana on the bench. Also, Lambert would be helpful defending corners. Just don't get it.
Owen1978 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The only signing I was disappointed that we didn't make was a DM, to eventually replace Gerrard... I was hoping we would go after Carvalho from Lisbon or maybe Schnerdlin

Benzo-13 Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Hoping a really good CM is the next target.Yep.I know every team would want one but a Gerrard of 03-09 changes a game like that.We lack a degree of power in midfield that Chelsea and City have.

Yeah. It's horrible to say it out loud of course, but we have to start looking at replacing Gerrard properly.
