Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) 7-0 like yesteryear pls Edited August 26, 2014 by RP
fred milne Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 MignoletManquillo Skrtel Lovren MorenoHenderson Gerrard AllenSterling Sturridge Markovic Subs to include Coutinho, Lallana, Balotelli and Lambert.
PhilM Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 In the last one of these threads, I suggested that we smashed City by 3 or 4 goals. Brendan didn't listen and look where it got us. This time, I'm going to advocate a win by two clear goals. That should see us alright.
David Hodgson Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 MignoletManquillo Skrtel Lovren MorenoHenderson Gerrard AllenSterling Sturridge Markovic Subs to include Coutinho, Lallana, Balotelli and Lambert. Are we allowed to do this ( City seem to) : ----------------------- Mignolet Manquillo -------Skrtel-------Lovren------Moreno ---------------------Gerrard-------Henderson ------- Markovic ----------------------------------Sterling --------------------Ballotelli--------Sturridge

Tommy Cockles Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I'm going. Will be in the Haringey Irish Centre, that doyen of pre match venues, from about noon for some heavy pre-match drinking. I had a dream last night that we got beat. Gerrard got untold stick the whole match and got sent off near the end. When he did they played a song about him over the PA & the whole crowd did a choreographed Chas & Dave type dance.
AnfieldCop Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Are we allowed to do this ( City seem to) : ----------------------- Mignolet Manquillo -------Skrtel-------Lovren------Moreno ---------------------Gerrard-------Henderson ------- Markovic ----------------------------------Sterling --------------------Ballotelli--------Sturridge I would change Markovic (impressed yesterday but assume he at this stage has to be seen as just an sub with great impact) with Allen, and go with Sterling as the front of the diamond
cymrococh Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I would change Markovic (impressed yesterday but assume he at this stage has to be seen as just an sub with great impact) with Allen, and go with Sterling as the front of the diamondThat probably makes sense. But I would love to see DH's team.
JRC Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 7-0 like yesteryear plsLast season's home and away aggregate was greater than 78-79
Tommok Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) This thread title infuriates me - the American habit (even in their media) of not using the word "on" when referring to an activity taking place on a certain day is equal parts baffling and annoying. Is Sakho injured? Edited August 26, 2014 by TommoK
Hassony Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I would change Markovic (impressed yesterday but assume he at this stage has to be seen as just an sub with great impact) with Allen, and go with Sterling as the front of the diamond Sterling should be the main guy now, should play in the centre behind the front one/ or two I agree about Markovic, I think he'll only start with one of Mario or Markovic and I think it'll be Mario

Agreed. Fixed. Just can't get the staff these days. Slap dash.

RP Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 As much as the midfield diamond suited us in the run-in last season, you have to conclude from our transfer business over the summer that Rodgers doesn't see it as our preferred formation. What do you think is his preferred formation for us this season? Does he even have one? Are his constant references to almost every formation under the sun designed to confuse opponents in their planning of how to play us or do you reckon he really does want and expect us to have such a flexible approach where we slip effortlessly from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 to 4-4-2 to 4-5-1 etc.?
yellow jumper Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 gerrard and henderson in a 2 didn't work last season even at home and with suarez in the side. wasn't particularly great for england either. think you blunt both of them. only way i can see of getting the extra attacking player in is to play coutinho/sterling/lallana as one of the three. then option of balotelli, markovic, sturridge, lambert or sterling ahead in diamond or 433. in terms of pressing we'll obviously have lost something in that respect with suarez going. so wouldn't mind to see allen, henderson, coutinho and sterling in a diamond at some point as i think they can all press effectively and against bigger men in central areas. new full backs, lovren and markovic all look to have some of that desire too.
Tommok Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Agreed. Fixed. Just can't get the staff these days. Slap dash. Thanks

Stevie H Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I'm not sure Brendan knows his preferred formation yet. Still working it out post signings and post Suarez.
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I'd start with a similar team to yesterday
surf Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 ---------------- mignolet ----------- manquilo lovren agger moreno --------------- gerrard -------------- -------- henderson coutinho ---- sterling -------------------- balotelli -------------- sturridge --------------
McBain Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I'd start with a similar team to yesterday Tempting. But the difference seen with two up top both games in respect to Danny on his own makes me think a change in formation right from the start might be needed I'd play Lambert
Conrad Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Are we allowed to do this ( City seem to) : ----------------------- Mignolet Manquillo -------Skrtel-------Lovren------Moreno ---------------------Gerrard-------Henderson ------- Markovic ----------------------------------Sterling --------------------Ballotelli--------Sturridge that's what Ant suggest in the other thread. I think it would be horrific, we'd be overrun in midfield
yellow jumper Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 lovren, moreno, coutinho, balotelli working our left side looks risky given what went on yesterday. i think the diamond probably best option, allows the extra striker and perhaps another player working in middle of the park to cover width.
