Tropical fish

Anyone on here an enthusiast? Used to have a couple if goldfish when I was a kid and nothing since until recently as my 3 year old lad is obsessed with finding nemo and the sea life centre so we took the plunge and got a decent tank. At the moment I only have cold water fish in there but want to progress to the warm water fish as they look brill (I have all the kit and everything with the tank). Are warm water fish much more difficult to look after? If so in what way?

 

Any particular breeds that anyone has on here that are particularly striking for any reason? Need some suggestions of certain species so can compile a list and whittle it down to the ones we like.
