Attention computer techies

Call it sad but I've always wanted to build my own PC - can't be that hard can it? It's a bit bewildering where to start though and making sure I get components which match up. Budget of about £600 for the computer plus extra for a monitor - doesn't need to be a games monster, 3D games I'll just play on consoles but enough to run games like Civilisation, new Elite coming out soon.

 

So, any recommendations on suppliers, components etc? Guess I'll need:

 

CPU

Motherboard

Power supply

Case

RAM

HDD

SSD (to boot from, unless it gets super expensive doing that)

Graphics card

 

Or is it totally not worth the hassle and better just ordering from a retailer?
