baja the hut Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Open question not putting into mind the transfer rumours of you know who: Will we go 1 up top next season. Will this help us stop the leaking of goals? How will we fit Lallana and /or Can in the first team? Will Gerrard continue his holding role?
Ombudsam Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 If Suarez goes we'll be 433. The diamond possibly gets the most out of our current staff but the 433 is more balanced.
Earl Hafler Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I think we'll see a few formations. Rodgers gaining more experience, as are the younger players
David Hodgson Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Rodgers believes in goals. If he loses Suarez's goals he'll look to get them elsewhere. Last season he got them in bag fulls from Suarez, Sturridge and Sterling in particular, and was prepared to let the 3 behind them (combos of Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Coutinho, Henderson) contribute in other ways. Without Suarez's c.30 league goals he'll look to more from Sturridge's under study (assuming Sturridge doesn't play the full complement), 12-15 from the wide-ish all purpose attacker he'd replace Suarez with, and a significant number from one of 3 centre mids. I think this means something like the following : 20 goals from Sturridge 5-7 from Lambert 10/12 from Sterling 12/15 from Sanchez/Markovic 8-10 from Lallana/Coutinho This kind of thing,
baja the hut Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 That's still only 64...youd need two 15s from a sanchez and a markovic. Expect sterling to score a lot more
David Hodgson Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 That's still only 64...youd need two 15s from a sanchez and a markovic. Expect sterling to score a lot more I'm assuming about 8 in pens too, maybe 5 from Henderson, 3/4 own goals, 10 from defenders and a few from squad players, and some from the one out of Coutinho or a Lallana who plays least.
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 the rest of the team scored 70 last season According to Cunny's assist table, Suarez was directly involved in 31 of those.
Swan Red Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 According to Cunny's assist table, Suarez was directly involved in 31 of those. I think you'll find that on Cunny's list Suarez has the assist on a number of his own goals but yeah he was responsible for a few.
baja the hut Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 (edited) 16 officially I think Edited June 29, 2014 by baja the hut
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I think you'll find that on Cunny's list Suarez has the assist on a number of his own goals but yeah he was responsible for a few. 2 of them I think (free kicks he won against Everton and Hull), so was involved in about 60% of our league goals which is pretty incredible.
Duncan Disorderly Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 That's still only 64...youd need two 15s from a sanchez and a markovic. Expect sterling to score a lot moreIf that's what you got from the list of potential goals, you're far worse at counting than I am.
baja the hut Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 If that's what you got from the list of potential goals, you're far worse at counting than I am. why? I thought i added the best case ones correctly?
Tobes Rafa Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 You did, not sure what DD is on about. By the way Duncan and apologies for the tangent but are you a wrestling fan? I took the kids to a wrestling event in Ards at the weekend and the main event was a Dunkan Disorderly. He's from Nards. Your idol or a coincidence?
downunder Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 According to Cunny's assist table, Suarez was directly involved in 31 of those. And any replacement will get some assists too.

Or Bangor even, thank you. I'm a Holywood man.
Flasher Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I think Lallana or Coutinho will play a conventional number 10 role and help fill the hole left in front of Gerrard plus one other. A variant of 4-3-3 I guess. Loads of width from fullbacks and wide forwards.

David Hodgson Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Jack Sear @JackSear 38mBR says that for the last 15 minutes last night (where we we excellent) we played a 4-2-3-1 with JH and RS either side of Coutinho in the 10 Jack Sear @JackSear 38mInteresting that 1) that was when we played our best football and 2) he says that role just off the right can be good for Henderson. Jack Sear @JackSear 38mHe says that in that role, Henderson can execute his very good runs forward well and score more goals.
Earl Hafler Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Still think we'll see a more solid team this season. Gerrard, Henderson, Can, Coutinho, Sterling and Sturridge as an example. Various formations.

Would rather see Henderson playing CM with Can alongside him and Gerrard sitting and get forward as much as Ramsey does for Arsenal, along with Can.
5InIstanbul Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Would rather see Henderson playing CM with Can alongside him and Gerrard sitting and get forward as much as Ramsey does for Arsenal, along with Can.To be fair, Brendan seems to know what he's talking about.
Ed the Wool Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Henderson maurauding would be great, and I think he'll get the chance now Can is here. He had to do a lot of the leg work for Gerrard last year, now that's shared I think we'll see him attack more. I don't think Gerrard has the legs to play 90 that far forward any more (sadly). In fact in some games probably not even 45. He's great where he was last year.
johngibo YPC Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Was hoping for something a bit more futuristic when I opened the thread Like 4 - 3 - 2 with one floating on a jet pack
