Nebraska Red Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 (edited) Cahill's goal v Holland is right up there, alongside some of the Dutch thunderbolts from the 70's and 80's that were good. Best for me was probably the Socrates pile driver v USSR in 82 Edited June 22, 2014 by Nebraska Red
Nerik Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Here is a good compilation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFKJA8mnG1E
drdooom Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Best for me was probably the Socrates pile driver v USSR in 82 Wasn't even the best goal in that game! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx9KMhX4lzo

John am Rhein Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 maradona v england 86 close the thread Bergkamp against Argentina in '98. I broke a few objects when that one went in Does anyone else remember argentina had been denied s penalty a few seconds earlier?
Nebraska Red Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Wasn't even the best goal in that game! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx9KMhX4lzoNah, that was a fluke
StevieC Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 I've always liked a Zico tap in against Argentina following Eder hitting a mental swerving free kick from miles out.
Hassony Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 close the thread I broke a few objects when that one went in Does anyone else remember argentina had been denied s penalty a few seconds earlier? yes I do, Van de Saar wasn't it and Bergkamps goal is overrated Owiran's goal Owiran's effort is always played down a bit, because it was scored by a saudi player rather than a Brazilian or an Argentinean I like this goal from Mexico 86 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4tGKaex2Ns
Molby Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Cahill's goal v Holland is right up there, alongside some of the Dutch thunderbolts from the 70's and 80's that were good. Best for me was probably the Socrates pile driver v USSR in 82 factually and gramaticaly incorrect
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 Actually think VanPersie's is a better goal this WC & would put it forward as 'A' (not the) great goal of World Cups. Top 20? Maybe, top 50 certainly
Hassony Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 There's no way Van Persie's is a better goal than Cahil's
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted June 23, 2014 Posted June 23, 2014 In my opinion it is. Cahill's is a screamer, one of those where the commentators roar ROONEY (when it's about 25yds over the bar). It's a great goal, don't get me wrong. It's also what you expect from great goals. Van Persie's sets itself aside through pure ingenuity, it's played in for a volley or half volley, he's not going to make it so executes one of the most perfect headers you'll see - and from 15yds. I liken them to Suarez - look at the Norwich game (H). The first is a la Cahill - a screamer, one of the goals of the season....decade. But then there was also the hattrick goal (the flick over the defender one) that rather than having you roaring with adrenaline, just leaves you laughing at the sheer audacity, brilliance, inventiveness....Sometimes those goals to me are the better ones. And like the Suarez vs Norwich game, it's hard to say which of his goals was the best
