Maharajkumar of Vizianagram Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Fighting words in that article, hope he pulls through. Read his autobiography a few years ago, it's one of the best football ones I've ever read. It's always fascinating to read an account of how football was in those days.
cymrococh Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 All the best to him, that treatment sounds horrific.
Earl Hafler Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 That sounds...well it's incomprehensible. All the best, Saint.
Murphman Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 My earliest memory of watching The Reds is St John's header against Leeds in 1965, he was a great footballer, get well soon Saint..

Pier Red Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 My first memory of seeing the Saint was at Plymouth in the last season in the second division (even earlier than Murph!). The match was in the Easter Holidays and we were visiting my Mum's family in Devon. I've still got the ticket stub. My uncle (a Plymouth fan) bought the tickets and we were in the stands! I must admit that I was a Roger Hunt fan (rather than Ian StJohn) at the time (sorry, DH). Yes, I'm expecting grief for my low amount of posts but hey, I'm old! I do follow the posts on here with interest (and occasional incredulity!)And yes I was at every home match (Anny Road End) from when I was 14 (1966) to 18, and then when I was at home until 1974, and quite a few aways (including Wembley 71, bloody Charlie George, never mind Peter Storey playing just long enough to clog before getting substituted and 1974, much happier!) but I'd drifted south to get a degree and then a job. I do get to see the reds when I can now but not often except on tv - I agree it would be great to have pay at the turnstile. we always got there early to make sure we got in and the atmosphere started earlier as a result.... the ramblings of an old red.....

I love it when you old boys come out to play, you should do it more often.
cymrococh Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I love it when you old boys come out to play, you should do it more often. :D/>We all do, he's infinitely more pleasant than you.
Murphman Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 We all do, he's infinitely more pleasant than you. I don't do 'pleasant', especially when dealing with lairy, hairy kids.
Stevie H Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I don't do 'pleasant', especially when dealing with lairy, hairy kids. that's what glitter said.
RBM Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Pier red is my favourite geriatric on here after 1 post. Not hard though when the competition is Murph and Snuffer.
Murphman Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Pier red is my favourite geriatric on here after 1 post. Not hard though when the competition is Murph and Snuffer. Ripley, BTB, Charlie Clown, all old barstards.
downunder Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Ripley, BTB, Charlie Clown, all old barstards. You are doing well to remember them all.
RBM Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Ripley, BTB, Charlie Clown, all old barstards. Old maybe, but they don't have to glue bits of flesh back on that have rotten away quite like you yet.
Murphman Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Old maybe, but they don't have to glue bits of flesh back on that have rotten away quite like you yet. I'll be sticking some flesh on you in a minute!!!
heighway Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I love that old clip, you can see it on Youtube, of St John knocking out a fella from Fulham and as the ref is sending him off the Fulham player is laid out cold at his feet. St John was a boxing champ in his pre-Liverpool army days. Get well soon Saint.
The Hitman Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I just watched that clip, to see if it's the same one I remember, the Saint barely touches his chin! The lad took a dive in the first.
