David Hodgson Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 OK, let's go.... For me, international tournaments are all about filling time til LFC are back in my life. To that end, I'm always with the international side with most LFC related interest. This makes England's the most interesting games, for me. AND I'm English, so all the planets are aligning. Woohoo. I was looking at possible England formations in the Times the other day, and one of them was this (front 6) : ------------------------------------------Gerrard-------Henderson ------------------------Lallana-------------------Rooney--------------Sterling ---------------------------------------------------Sturridge. What's not to love about watching and supporting that on the 'world stage' ? Well, apart from the obvious thing. I want to see those boys doing as well as possible. f*** bloody Uruguay or anyone else. PS Please don't anyone waste their breath telling me that England are unpalatable because of Roy Hodgson. I couldn't give a sh*t about him.

oakie bob Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 All Liverpool players knocked in the group stage, then we can plan for next season and none of this World Cup s****
honourablegeorge Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 What's not to love about watching and supporting that on the 'world stage' ? Rooney,
Earl Hafler Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 OK, let's go.... For me, international tournaments are all about filling time til LFC are back in my life. JGL Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Would anyone on here start Rooney? I don't particularly rate him anywhere but upfront anymore and in that position Sturridge is clearly better. -------------------Gerrard--Ox/Barkley/Milner/Wilshere ----- Hendo Sterling-----Sturridge-----Lallana Which is a pretty strong looking team that could do really well. I think Sterling could be one of the players of the tournament.
Tobes Rafa Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 OK, let's go.... PS Please don't anyone waste their breath telling me that England are unpalatable because of Roy Hodgson. I couldn't give a sh*t about him.I agree. I'm from Northern Ireland and I'll be cheering on the Liverpool boys and England in particular. Can't stand Hodgson but we've got Brendan now so no need to be bitter. In fact if Hodgson hadn't been so stupendously s*** we might never have gotten round to Brendan. It wouldn't please me to see him doing well but I'd love to see the Redmen ripping it up.
David Hodgson Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Rooney, Read my post again George. Carefully this time.
JRC Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I can't even sustain any particular ill-will against Hodgson (Roy, that is, not the OP). He came, he acted the c**k, he was found wanting, he got sacked. So be it. He has been quite respectful about his spell here since (I wouldn't say humble, but not as cockworthy as I thought he might be) - his acolytes in the press, and the more simple-minded non-LFC fans have been much worse - and he has managed the LFC players in the England camp pretty well. It reflected well on us when he was given a decent reception when he came back as WBA Manager, and - whisper it - he's probably not the worse England Manager ever, whether in terms of not doing ludicrous flag waving or tub-thumping (not really his style, obviously, when a 15-minute anecdotal drone will suffice) or even, given the squad and the talk of 4-2-3-1 as above etc. in terms of tactics and interesting player selection. Probably personal hubris, but he seems to want to show that he isn't just the rigid, straight-line, tied-together 442 fetishist that was found out - even by much of the pro-Hodgson media - in the Euros. * at the end of the day, I'll be hoping to enjoy Gerrard, Henderson, Johnson, Sterling and Sturridge playing well (and Lallana, provisionally) - whether that be in an England shirt or any other nationality. I will be sorely conflicted over England vs Uruguay.

In the context of this tournament I simply ask that he picks Liverpool players and doesn't get them injured (and I know that there's a potential contradiction there). It's true though. Each to his own Murph, but I'd be thrilled to see Raheem's beaming face taking the world Cup trophy from Stevie G before passing it on to Sturridge etc. It won't happen, but hey ....
yellow jumper Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 rooney's another one of these £300,000 a week status obsessed knob-heads. more important feeling that he's the man, than actually being the man. ferguson had it right with him.

honourablegeorge Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Read my post again George. Carefully this time. ;)/> I assumed Hodgson was the "obvious thing". Well, initially, I reminded myself that I'm Irish, but I can get past all that easier than I can get past Hodgson.

Tobes Rafa Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) So they say but I don't buy into all that. I'd be cheering on Ireland too if they made it through. Edited May 23, 2014 by Tobes Rafa
The_Adder Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 We could have 6 LFC players starting for England if we get this Lallana deal done before it kicks off. Thats pretty damn impressive whichever you look at it, especially since most of them are f***ing boss.

Shame about Hodgey but whaddyagonnado?
Earl Hafler Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Watch the games, ignore the interviews. It'll be fantastic. Might also be the odd moment of ass tinged face rubs - should go down a treat in Brazil.

I'm on that bandwagon n all... anyone from these isles - I'll want to see them do well and love the world cup - it's all the qualifying nonsense I don't get... but then it has produced a good few upsets at the boot of the mighty Healy
matty Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Might also be the odd moment of ass tinged face rubs - should go down a treat in Brazil.eh?
aka Dus Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 This is like the 70s and 80s when we had plenty of good England players and they were never bothered enough to win anything with England.
Cobs Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 This is like the 70s and 80s when we had plenty of good England players and they were never bothered enough to win anything with England. it's actually feck all like that, as it was feck all like that back in the 70s & 80s
Nate. Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Always want England to do well despute there being loads of reasons for me to not feel that way. The idea of them spawning a world cup win while good in theory would mean Roy becomes SIr Roy. Not sure I could deal with that...
