Looking at the managerial situations at each of last season's Premiership teams:

City - stable

LFC - stable

Chelsea - probably stable, but you never know with Mourinho

Arsenal - ditto, the result this coming weekend may influence

Everton - stable but Martinez likely to be on several clubs shortlist

Spurs - Sherwood sacked, need new Manager

United - Moyes sacked, Giggs stop-gap, need new Manager

Southampton - Pocchetino may well choose to leave

Stoke - stable

Newcastle - Pardew's position looking very shaky

Palace - stable, Pulis has done a great job

Swansea - stable,Garry Monk just appointed as permanent Manager

West Ham - Allardyce must be on his way soon

Sunderland - Poyet agitating for more control, could go either way

Villa - Lambert's position looking shaky, club up for sale

Hull - stable

West Brom - Mel gone, ned new Manager

Norwich - Has Adams gone yet? Talk of Neil Lennon being interested in the job (why??)

Fulham - Magath appears to have been told he'll be backed, not sure he sees himself in The Championship though

Cardiff - Novice, s*** Manager. Owner barking mad, so who knows?

So the only clubs where a change/new Manager in the summer would be really surprising are City, us, Stoke, Palace, Swansea and Hull City. I wouldn't be surprised to see movement at any of the other clubs ... I can't recall a situation quite like this where so many situations are unstable.

Brendan is 4th in terms of longest serving Managers in the Premiership ... after just 2 seasons. At least two of those above him are in imminent danger of losing their jobs - Brendan could be second only to Arsene Wenger in a matter of a few days.

It really is a ridiculous state of affairs. Is it a indicative on a dearth of managerial quality, ineptitude at board level, unrealistic expectations of fans/board/owners?

I think Pulis' stock may be high enough that someone tries to get him out of Palace - not sure who though. They'd hate him at Spurs but he could do a decent job for them

You need to factor in Leicester, Burnley and one of Derby/Redknapp as well. I imagine ALL would start the season with the current manager. What odds on them ending it

I reckon Moyes starts next season as Newcastle manager.

what about the pardew eight year contract nonsense? was it ever confirmed there was a break clause in it?

pochettino to spurs beginning to look more and more likely to me.

Thinking back, Pulis took ages to accept the Palace job in the first place, didn't he?

Fans in general seem to take a very short term view (you're only as good as your last game) which impacts onto board level decisions, but I think the major problems lies in managerial ability. It isn't so much to do with their football and technical ability but more to do with their leadership and communication skills. I question how much training and support managers receive in this area, particularly bearing in mind how reluctant football seems to be in looking outside their closed world to learn from other environments.

I reckon there's a chance Oscar Garcia could end up at West Ham, Villa or one of those clubs who might lose a manager to a bigger club.

West Ham will be ripe for a takeover soon.

Moyes is made for the Celtic job if Lennon comes south, which he really should.

What jobs down here do you think would interest Lennon. Agree Moyes / Celtic.

Newcastle for Lennon maybe

The Leicester job has to be quite likely to come up at some point, their owners talking about spending loads.

Was thinking that.

Right now, it seems it would be harsh, but in a few months who knows?

West Ham would be a really attractive option for Lennon, with the stadium move coming up etc.

I don't think you can really blame fans

Were West Brom fans calling for Clarke's head? I think boards just panic because of the large amounts of money involved

For every one Pulis turnaround there seem to be four where it doesn't make much difference. But I guess Chairmen always think they will be the one who gets it right

Edit: Second half of your post is interesting. I wonder if the successes of Rodgers & Martinez this season will encourage more clubs to take chances on new appointments, and avoid the usual 'safe' suspects

I agree with this.

And I understand a club going for say Pulis or Magath when they feel in extreme danger of relegation - Managers with appropriate experience. But to switch horses late in the season for someone like Solksjaer or even Mel (who had experience but I'd suggest it's not all that relevant to the challenging situation he was walking in to) makes no sense to me.

It does occasionally pay off but still strikes me as unnecessarily high risk.

I could imagine Pulis leaving Palace and just waiting around till Christmas and seeing which Club will pay up for him to come in and do his thing and save them from relegation (could be Palace again ). I'd imagine he could make that pay pretty well ... only works maybe until his first failure, but still.

Oscar Garcia being tipped for West Ham.

Lambert might also suit Celtic if Lennon has had enough.

I'm sure Moyes will be in a job soonish. Too many actual and potential vacancies.

Southampton I think he'd turn down especially if losing the manager makes them more likely to lose Lallana, Shaw and whoever else is good, I don't think Martinez leaves Everton but if he does they aren't going to go with Lennon given that they've enjoyed playing a bit of football for the first time in 11 years.

Moyes position is pretty precarious, if he fails again he can't hide behind the excuses he has this time Newcastle I think suits ambitious in words only and not that arsed about how they play.
