Gomez Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Could probably google the answer to this question, but f*ck it, we are back in the CL and that probably deserves it's own thread. I've read we'll be 3rd seeds because of the hit our ranking has taken in our absence. However, I seem to remember that they used to pair teams from the same leagues so as they could obfuscate the draw and fix it keep them apart. Does this mean we will actually be in the second seed pot or will we drag one of the other English teams down to our seeding? Does this impact on who we want to get 4th? Surely Arsenal will have a better ranking that Everton? Or have I completely mis-remembered this and it which pot each team goes in has nothing to do with other teams from the same country?

You've got this badly wrong Say pot 1 has united in it (LOL!) Pot 2 when they draw it won't have city in it. Pot 3 won't have liverpool in it. Say pot 1 has Madrid in it. Then pot 2 they draw city Then pot 3 can't have Liverpool in it. etc etc

Say pot 1 has Madrid in it. Then pot 2 they draw city Then pot 3 can't have Liverpool in it. etc etc Yeah, was just looking at last years and pot 1 had arsenal, man u and chelsea, whilst city were in pot 3. I guess it won't make a difference. Sure I remember something like this though a while back, one of the Italian sides was in a pot lower than then usually would have been because of another Italian team, seemed harsh but was to do with keeping them apart and how the teams from the same league are paired up for TV. Anyway, so is it better for us for Everton or Arsenal to qualify? (Not who do we want to qualify because we think Everton are all cuddly all of a sudden, but what would be of benefit to LFC?) Because we can't draw an English team, and arsenal would be in pot 1 with chelsea, this would mean we have more chance of getting a Barca, Real or MadridHave City done enough to get into pot 1 or 2 yet? (they seem to be ranked below Spurs on that, I guess that will change next year) Also, if Everton get 4th they would be less likely to qualify (given their seeding) which I think would mean a bigger share of the group stage cash for us, as it is shared out on a per country basis? Any reason why Arsenal qualifying will be beneficial to us?
JGL Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Giving it a quick look, as things stand seeding pots should be something like this: Pot 1BarcelonaBayernReal MadridChelseaBenficaAtletico(Arsenal)Porto Pot 2SchalkeDortmundPSGJuventusShakhtarBaselZenitMan City If Arsenal fail to make it there's still a number of teams that would move into pot 2 ahead of us (Leverkusen/Olympiacos/Ajax/Napoli for example) so it seems se are in pot 3 no matter what happens.
JGL Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 While I'm at it. We're currently ranked 32nd: 1....FC Barcelona.....................157.0562....FC Bayern München...........154.3283....Real Madrid CF..................154.0564....Chelsea FC.......................139.9215....Manchester United FC........128.9216....SL Benfica.........................124.2937....Club Atlético de Madrid.......115.0568....Valencia CF.......................113.0569....Arsenal FC........................112.92110..FC Porto............................105.293 32..Liverpool FC.......................58.921 With the majority of our points (24.585) coming from the 09/10 season which will count for the last time for the upcoming draw, so no matter what it will take a few years for us to move back up the ranking.
Knox_Harrington Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Three terrific years of a walking grupo de la muerte.
Mike Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Seedings are for yesterday's teams. Pots 1&2 are the pots for losers.
sutty Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Three terrific years of a walking grupo de la muerte. We'll be the team that nobody wants to draw.
PhilM Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 We'll be the team that nobody wants to draw. And everyone aspires to draw with.
Nebraska Red Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) Three terrific years of a walking grupo de la muerte.Only for those who have the misfortune to be in our group. The loan period is over, time to reclaim old big ears. Edited April 23, 2014 by Nebraska Red
_00_deathscar Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 And everyone aspires to draw with. Hi there Woy.
Falconhoof Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 We'll be the team that nobody wants to draw. They will know it will be great weekend away and an experience. They won't expect points off us.
Earl Hafler Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Watched that semi final last night and it was Last Of The Summer Wine to our Crackerjack. We're just madhouse stuff compared to what we normally see from Champions League teams
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Roma will be pot 4, there's potential for a great/awful group of death
Clay Davis Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Roma will be pot 4, there's potential for a great/awful group of deathI want the hardest group we can get. We'll get through it.
Chewie Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) so, next year when winning the europa league gets you into the champions league the year after - is there still an absolute max of 4 from the Premier League? edit. did me own homework... seems that the maximum is now 5 (i.e. top 4 plus Europa league winner if outside the top 4... if both CL and Europa league winners come from EPL and are out of the top 4 then the top 3 plus the two european winners go through...) Edited April 23, 2014 by Chewie
Gunga Din Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 i want Bayern or Barca or Madrid in our group. I want them to come to Anfield, i want Brendan standing on the sideline, standing grinning, the floodlights glinting off his new teeth, as our forwards reduce our opponents to nervous wrecks to the backdrop of noise and colour on the Kop. I want this.
JGL Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I want Dortmund. Two big parties between the best sets of supporters around.
Swipe Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Crazy that its not even May yet, and we've already qualified for the CL and it barely registered. Some season!
Sion Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 They will know it will be great weekend away and an experience. They won't expect points off us. Love the buzz around the city on European gameweeks. Boss going to Tescos to pick up lunch and see Madrid/Barca/Bayern fans everywhere. Seems like its been forever.
New York Red Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 God yeah. Driving up the motorway jet-lagged as quick as I can to get a kip before heading out to Anfield. Bloody brilliant.
