David Hodgson Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Whether we win the league or not, this season is Ferguson's legacy nightmare. However, here's some sobering thoughts from another United sage : http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/2014/04/atkinson-wouldnt-be-surprised-if-man-utd-finish-above-liverpool-next-year/? The Sport ReviewBy The Sport Review Tuesday 22 April 2014, 17:05 UK Manchester United will finish above Liverpool next season, according to former Red Devils manager Ron Atkinson. United sacked David Moyes on Tuesday morning after the defending English champions suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday. The Red Devils, who won’t be in next season’s Champions League, trail current Premier League leaders Liverpool by 23 points after 11 Premier League defeats this season. But Sir Alex Ferguson’s predecessor at Old Trafford reckons United can close the gap and leapfrog their bitter rivals with three top-range signings this summer. “I think United will be in the top four next season. The team of the season is obviously Liverpool but I wouldn’t be surprised to see United finish above them next year,” Atkinson told Fubar Radio. He added: “I think Fellaini has more to come than he has offered. He will be a better player than he has shown this season. “Mata is a super player. He will be a very good Manchester United player. I can see some sort of link up between him and Rooney in the future. “If they bring three top-range players in, it picks the other players up. The Smallings, the Jones, the Evans if they see top players coming. Wellbeck though can f*** off, the lazy black b*****d” quipped the ever colourful Atkinson.

yellow jumper Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 there's loads struggling to come to terms with this. can't blame them, it's even a bit surreal for me.
allez les rouges Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Fubar radio? Is that a division of mutv?I think its a division of the KKK.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 no-one knocked us off, we dived off it - bit like Utd have this year it is kind of poetic - as soon as Ferguson f***s off we're back on top.

It's that type of insightful tactical acumen that made Big Ron the manager he was.
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Don't really care about them, they're the 7th best team in England
Earl Hafler Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 there's loads struggling to come to terms with this. can't blame them, it's even a bit surreal for me. Been a quite sensational 18 months for our club.
Lee W Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 It's all about what you win while "off your perch" that matters.
dorgie Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I'm not commenting until I've heard what Paddy Crerand has to say.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 It's all about what you win while "off your perch" that matters. Indeed. FA Cup: 1992, 2001, 2006League Cup: 1995, 2001, 2003, 2012Uefa Cup: 2001European Cup: 2005 And the fact that we were one of the most feared sides in Europe for a while under Rafa.

I know it's a showpiece game but didn't we win the European Super Cup twice in that era also...?
stressederic Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 We haven't won the league in 24 years. United had a huge period of dominance. And despite it all they only got 2 league titles ahead of us. Bad timing for them now all this.

Chewie Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Once from memory. Nope...did it in both 2001 and 2005...

And Mr.Ferguson only won the European Cup twice in over 20 attempts. Nope...did it in both 2001 and 2005... Just checked and you're right. I was thinking about that World Club Cup thing that we lost to the ref.
Stevie H Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 what kind of media outlet actively seeks ron atkinson's opinion on anything? he's the UKIP of ex-football managers.
David Hodgson Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 No ones actually read my copy and paste of this to the very end have they. I worked hard on that bit of highbrow satire, you'd think someone would've noticed (sigh).

David Hodgson Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 It was too subtle I know. Ahead of my time.
