There's a possibility people might pay that sort of cash just for tickets to the Newcastle game

I came across a site flogging away end tickets to the Norwich match for £600!

Posted

Thing is you can't.. And someone is providing the supply....

The club does investigate sites and do what they can. The off shore ones are harder to investigate.

Tickets are also bought from them, by the club, and traced back to the original owners too.

I always thought it would be an idea for the club to have an auction site whereby touting is legal, but any amount above face value goes to local charities.

Posted

Charities would then eventually just employ "fundraisers" to buy up tickets and recycle them at a profit. It wouldn't help keep prices down at all.

If they did that on any scale at all (I'm dubious), why would they not advertise the fact better, make examples of people etc.?

Has anyone ever heard an example of this happening?

They have told me they do. Don't shoot the messenger!!!

I think it's in some of the published minutes, I will check.

Isn't it your role to take such queries and questions from fans back to the committee?

We have, and that's why I will look up the minutes. It has been brought up, I want to get the exact wording.I cant remember if specific websites were named and shamed. We mentioned a few to be investigated.

3.33. LW said that the Committee had received complaints about alleged ticket

touting. For example, there are a number of websites and agencies that

regularly have LFC tickets for sale, which causes irritation. What, if any,

procedures are in place to monitor this.

3.34. PD confirmed that the Club has a legal team that investigates such matters.

When it comes to websites, the Club looks at when and how they are

advertising such availability. It is difficult to close a website down, particularly

if it’s not in the UK we usually get them on IP rights, for example using the

Club crest etc. Touting is a massive industry, and even if you are successful in

stopping one activity, they immediately find a way to re-invent themselves

and carry on. PD suggested that a good number of the tickets advertised are

fake. The Club continues to investigate such matters and close as much down

as possible. If it is found that fans have been selling on tickets, they are

banned from purchasing tickets in the future. We are always investigating

cases and, on average, ban at least one tout a week, but it is a longwinded

and time-consuming process.

£3500 is actually a bargain for that to be fair..... I'm actually tempted myself.

You can get 10% off if you are a member of a supporters club too.

That sounds like the kind of fog I expected - it's really difficult, we do all we can, "if it is found that fans have been selling on tickets" etc.

There are touts operating quite blatantly at just about every Liverpool match I have ever been to - often right under the nose of the Police. Everyone pays lip-service to condemning touts - but no-one does anything about them ... as long as the tickets get sold, why would the clubs care what then happens to them? The only real notice they take is that they have recently cottoned on to the fact that the prices fans pay to touts would be better directed to the club itself, hence they have started to engage in legalised touting themselves (been going on for several years, to be fair).

thats not a bad deal at all.

Wonder if having to share a bed with big Jan in the hotel is part of the small print..

I got this email a few weeks ago, I don't think there is a problem in me publishing it. It shows why websites shouldn't be trusted.

Hello from Finland

This is not of course your problem, but I'll tell you about my and my

friend's footballtrip. We bought and paid tickets to Liverpool-

Tottenham game already in january. We are from Finland and we flougt to

England on thursday and we stay in hotel in Liverpool. We bought those

tickets from Hotfootballtickets. And now, when we are in Liverpool, they

call us from Hotfootballtickets and say that we can't get the tickets.

And they say that we can go to Manchester United- Aston Villla game!!

ManU... Bad joke.

So we are in Liverpool and we have paid nearly 600 € for tickets and we

can't go to match.

What do you say about our situation and do you have business with

Hotfootball company?

Yours

Who's actually running this?

Liverpool.. well they sent the email.

Still touting of course, but sites like that should be the problem of the Barclays Premier League and greater footballing authorities rather than an individual club.

There is a load more the club could do about smaller scale or closer to home touting ... but they don't.

I don't disagree, and we do our best to get action on such matters.
