Conrad Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) He's announced his retirement at the end of the season Cracking player, if he'd been fit and not been so mismanaged by Houllier playing him through injury, we'd have won the title. Imagine a fully fit Kewell ahead of either Benayoun or Riera in the 08-09 team. We'd also have won the 2007 final with a fit HK in the team instead of Pennant, I'm sure of it Edited March 26, 2014 by Heighway 61 Revisited
Gunga Din Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 pennant played well in the final of 2007. teh mistake there was not starting Crouch. Kewell was done when we got him. a bad buy
Maldini Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Don't think he was done when he got him, he scored 16 the year before we got him and 11 in his first with us despite poor form in the second half of the season. He had some sort of chronic injury that we never fixed didn't he? It wasn't until Peter Brukner took over as doctor of the Aussie national team that he finally got it sorted.
Earl Hafler Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 pennant played well in the final of 2007. teh mistake there was not starting Crouch. Kewell was done when we got him. a bad buy We won one game in twelve from January to May when Crouch didn't start that season. f*** off Athens. Happy retirement, Harry.
Gilps Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Happy retirement Harry. Can we please not talk about Athens?
Benzo-13 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 pennant played well in the final of 2007. teh mistake there was not starting Crouch. Kewell was done when we got him. a bad buyHe got a whack on the ankle pre-season which he played through on. By that December he had a cortisone jab which totally f***ed his groin up. He had a calcification on it IIRC.Weird that we all thought he'd go wide left and then GH inverted him on the right.Good player just totally wrecked injury wise and usually flared at the worst of wrong times too.
Nerik Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 A fully-fit Kewell or Paddy Berger in the 08/09 side..............if only
Barnesy_10 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 always remember his goal against Everton at Anfield... http://youtu.be/ZZ87_dLBpQ8
FakeNewsBear Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Worked with him on a football show for Aussie TV around 2007 really nice guy enjoy retirement Harry
whitewidow Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Spent the whole of my honeymoon in Canada (yes, not totally the whole of it but you know what I am driving at) looking for internet cafes to log on to this place to find out what the hell was happening about him signing. He let me down.
charlie clown Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Remember him scoring an absolute beauty from wide on the rght in a European fixture. I was sat more or less right behind where he hit it from and watched it all the way into the net.
Ant Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I was 13 when he joined. I got a Kewell hair cut, a Kewell Liverpool top, and proper loved Harry Kewell for no reason other than he looked pretty hot in fairness * *I'm not gay
PhilM Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Spent a lads holiday in Tenerife looking in the internet cafe whenever I was sober to see if we signed him. Which to be fair was maybe...once. Remember him playing a blinder against Chelsea. They played Geremi at right back and Kewell absolutely took him to bits.
Conrad Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Remember him playing a blinder against Chelsea. They played Geremi at right back and Kewell absolutely took him to bits. his debut wasn't it?
psl Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Nah think that was the FA Cup semi final Yep, at Old Trafford when Garcia scored one of his beauties.
Woodsyla Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) Kewell was done when we got him. a bad buyThat's nonsense, Kewell was outstanding when he first started, never recovered from the succession of injuries he got, but his first 3 months were just wow. Remember him going past John Terry as if he were stuck in mud, at first glance I thought it was Bridge as he made him look so slow, just breezed past him. Terrific player in his day. RP Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Great player on his day - shame they were all/mostly prior to him signing for us.
abc Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 He played through pain for us, I recall him saying he should have rested that ankle until it healed properly, in hindsight. Him and Houllier felt the team needed him even at 50% fitness/ability... Problem is it never healed properly and led to worse injuries. Let's not forget that he chose us, his boyhood club, ahead of Man Utd and other teams who apparently offered him more money.

He loved to regain fitness when there was a medal on offer.
Cobs Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 He was brilliant in that SF v Chelsea at OT. Shame he was rarely fit enough to replicate it.
Benzo-13 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Great winner v Spurs one year (2006?). Quality volley.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Typical Aussie. Chucked in a sickie most days. I wouldn't call him a bad signing or a flop. Worth the gamble at the time for 5million quid.
kop205 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 He loved to regain fitness when there was a medal on offer. I think that gets overstated too. I think if anything Rafa was over-keen to have him in for the big games. I remember Bascombe being particularly snide about him, I think after Istanbul, basically saying it was a disgrace he was on the bus for the victory parade, having a go at his missus and all sorts.

Yeah, Rafa played him half fit. It was worth the risk because he was still good enough even half fit.
