David Hodgson Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Surely we gotta start talking about this now...... Do we go 451 or back to 442 ? Johnson straight back in ? For whom ?
Mike Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Flanno left back, Johnson right back, Mignolet in goal, I'd like Suarez to have more time in the middle of the attack, it's been a while and his goals have dried up.

Sounds about right. Henderson could come back in too. If its felt Gerrard needs a rest, Allen could play the deeper role but in general, at this stage of the season, I am not for rotation - manage fatigue levels in training.
Conrad Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 how far off is Enrique? And is Johnson fit for this one? Johnson for Cissohko and Henderson for Allen are the obvious changes from Arsenal. And yes Suarez more central would be good, shift Sturridge wider to accommodate that

Agree with all that. Might give Joe Allen one more go as well
David Hodgson Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 There will be a big temptation for Rodgers to allow Sturridge and Suarez to both go central for this one. He did it last season against Swansea, with Coutinho and Downing wide, and two centre mids (Gerrard and Lucas iirc), and we won 5-0.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Above is a look at minutes on the pitch in League games only. Take into account that City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have had European games as well. The cut off above is 1,755 min mark which is 75% of all the maximum i.e. 2,340mins (26 games x 90mins). Here are how the Top 6 fair in terms of how many players have played over 75% of the minutes available; City - 3ToureZabaletaFernandinho Chelsea - 5CechIvanovicTerryRamiresHazard Arsenal - 6SzezcenySagnaMertesackerKoscielnyOzilGiroud Liverpool - 5MignoletSkrtelGerrardHendersonSuarez Spurs - 3LlorisWalker Dawson Everton - 7HowardColemanJagielkaDistinBarry McCarthyMirallasLukaku

They really weren't trying in that game, I wouldn't use it as any sort of barometerI would be very surprised if he goes like that after the Villa debacle Swansea have the quality to pass through us like Villa did. They did it in the league cup last year (and I think got a result under Rodgers in the league?)

Cam Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Cissokho has been fine. Same team as Arsenal. Tell Suarez & Sturridge they're on a death-defying mission to score a hat-trick each otherwise they get to choose which member of the squad is shot (and in a cruel twist they're not allowed to select Aspas).

They did it in the league cup last year (and I think got a result under Rodgers in the league?) We also played that way and that line up in beating Spurs 3-2 at home. However, let's not forget that we've played lots of 442 variations in the past year with Suarez and Sturridge up top, and central. If we play a kind of 4-1-2-1-2 (diamond) it could work. -------------------------------------------Mignolet ---Flanagan--------------Skrtel-------------------Agger----------------Johnson -------------------------------------------Gerrard ----------------------------Henderson--------------Coutinho -------------------------------------------Sterling --------------------------Suarez------------------Sturridge With the ball , Sterling is moving left to right at will, and without, he and Coutinho (or Henderson) are covering the flanks defensively.
surf Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 dont f*** about with formations again. play the same formation and have suarez & sturridge switch position a few times during the game, to give defenders something to think about

jimbolala Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Henderson for Allen, mignolet back in nets and Ally back on the bench with either Johnson, Fannigan or Agger there instead
