Still only January but with the weights being published next week and the antepost market changing under the focus of the media, i think it's advisable to back Monbeg Dude.

Backed it when it won last years Welsh National and it has run well since, recently winning at Cheltenham. Last season they tried it in the Gold Cup and it was outclassed. This season they probably won't run it at that festival and will instead head to Aintree. With former Gold Cup winner Long Run likely to head the weights, the Dude will be racing off a light weight

Mike Tindall is one of the owners and with the Royal connection and a baby on the way, also Peter Scudamore related to the trainer, there will be plenty of publicity next week. I reckon it'll shorten up. It also has the type of name National punters latch on to and if it lines up on the day as expected, i can't see it being much bigger than 10-1. It's available at 25-1 at present and i think a couple of bookies are going Non Runner No Bet or Free Bet.
