Learning to play guitar

Two weeks ago I got a nice new acoustic guitar . Now I have to learn to play it. At the moment my poor little fingers are incredibly sore but I am enjoying playing scales, trying chords and generally making a racket. Are there any tips out there by folks on the Genny as to learning how to master this thing. Cheers
