If you could pick one player from our past

Who you think would most improve the team now, who would it be?

 

I was thinking of John Barnes at first, but now torn between Sami Hyypia or Steve Nicol (to play at left back).

 

Not Dalglish or Rush. Could understand shouts for Souness, but our priority, for me, I think, is either defence or left-back.

 

A goal scoring midfield player is another interesting possibility. Terry Mac? (Not John Wark!)

Just kidding. Other than dead ball situations the defence is okay. It's the midfield that needs a shot in the arm. We need someone with defensive capabilities who can get stuck when it matters (a crunching tackle helps stops attacks but has the added bonus of boosting the team & crowd).

 

Souness is the obvious choice for his all-round ability & additional goal threat. But a Mascherano would also help (likes a tackle, mobile enough to cover the maurauding fullbacks and a veritable loon).

He was smart & talented enough to adapt.

 

Okay, maybe once. And probably for a nasty headbutt so 6 games but still...

Souness for Lucas, but Lawro for Skrtel would be a shout. He could play left back or midfield as well.

 

And I'm saying that as a massive fan of Barnes, but he'd improve us less than Souness would.

 

An off-centre shout for me would be Arbeloa. Can play either FB position better than our current two, at least till Glen gets his form back.

There are many that would vastly improve us, but Souness in this set up would win us the League for me.
