New York Red Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 We went through the mill worse than anyone, so we have to have to have sympathy when this happens to another team. But how do owners like Vincent Tan, our two c*nts, Mike Ashley, Venky's etc get approved to buy teams? There are other examples all the way through the divisions and I don't suppose it will ever go away totally, but my God they have to do a better job of vetting these dicks. I can remember some American nut-job doing a real number on Chester a number of years back too. Chopping and changing managers, changing club names and colours, not giving sufficient transfer funds. The list goes on and on. I used to think that the free market system would sort all of that out, but it's absolutely not true. The case in point was with us and how all the protests counted for nothing without a full fan boycott of the team, and human nature prevented people from doing that in a truly concerted way. Focusing on making the team a truly money losing proposition for these owners is so difficult and so the madness goes on. I'm not talking about being angry at not spending enough for periods of time like happened with Arsenal, but more like real destructive behaviour on the part of owners who clearly aren't fit because they don't have a clue about football, culture, honour or protocol. This approval process needs to be far, far better. It currently makes for great gossip, but it's horrible for the fans.
Zoob Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 Think it must be nearly impossible to genuinely regulate this. Isn't buying a club simply about following the legal financial requirements and having enough money to make the purchase? If those requirements are met, I don't see how the governing body can say you're not fit and proper../ don't have a clue about football, culture, honour or protocol.
Serko Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 The fans hate Ashley but Newcastle have done okay since he's been there.
Billy Dane Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 I think Portsmouth have had it worse than us tbh. We obviously came close to going under, but they've had a string of dodgy b******s owning them plus the Redknapp factor.
muleskinner Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 the fit and proper owner test was a form filled out by the prospective buyer with out any background check from the premier league. its tightened up a bit but they want the big money owners so don't really care who they are or what their intentions are. I think Portsmouth have had it worse than us tbh. We obviously came close to going under, but they've had a string of dodgy b******s owning them plus the Redknapp factor. they should have been put out of business, only a football club would survive the situation they were in, it was totally insolvent.
Buzz Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 We had it bad, i dunno that we had it worse than any one, I just think we A) had a manager who stood up to them and made it public which B) confirmed to us the fans that our worst fears of behind the scenes shenanigans were true and we reacted to it.
Hassony Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Vincent Tan might be a crazy c***, but if it wasn't for him Cardiff might be where Portsmouth are now
Falconhoof Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I remember when Bluto, from the Popeye cartoons, bought Plymouth and made them play all their home games in a multi storey car park, wearing back packs filled with rocks.
PhilM Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Vincent Tan might be a crazy c***, but if it wasn't for him Cardiff might be where Portsmouth are now Maybe, but Cardiff are the sort of club who would be a decent business investment. It's not like they had to make a black or white choice between shifty idiots or going bust.
PhilM Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Send potential new owners to the pub with supporters groups to see if they're bad bellends?
Gomez Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) We had it bad, i dunno that we had it worse than any one, I just think we A) had a manager who stood up to them and made it public which B) confirmed to us the fans that our worst fears of behind the scenes shenanigans were true and we reacted to it. I don't know, whilst what Tan is doing is outrageous, he's not raping the club, he's just trying to completely change it into something it's not. He's trying something radical to make money out of it. Understandably the fans don't like it because they are losing their club. We were the top rated side in Europe, in the CL every year and challenging at the top, we were successful and very profitable, it's just that H&G&P wanted everything, they wanted it all, mainly because their other businesses were failing, they would have taken every penny and left a husk. Portsmouth are probably the ones closest to us who've had owners who were just intent of milking their club dry with no regard to anything else. For all the money that the glazers are taking out of the club, they are leaving enough into enable them to challenge at the pinnacle of europe. Edited December 23, 2013 by Gomez
Duncan Disorderly Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Vincent Tan might be a crazy c***, but if it wasn't for him Cardiff might be where Portsmouth are now He now wants players signed that have the number 8 in their birth date. He's as mad as a bag of cats.
Gunga Din Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 the fit and proper tests arent worth a damn. under the criteria at the moment, Nelson Mandela (if he was still alive) wouldnt pass the fit and proper, yet Robert Mugabe would. Its something thats almost impossible to regulate, unless they bring out some sort of rule where clubs have to be 51% fan owned as a minimum

Its something thats almost impossible to regulate, unless they bring out some sort of rule where clubs have to be 51% fan owned as a minimum That's about the only thing that would work in one sense, having owners act against the wishes of fans. It wouldn't mean every club is run well though, and would probably mean the end of sugar daddies.

He would probably have Webb, Atkinson and Mason executed and fed to the lions

domlfc Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Red Bull trying to buy West Ham, what would they be like as owners?
Falconhoof Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Red Bull trying to buy West Ham, what would they be like as owners? They tend to put decent money into their clubs. Extensive rebranding though. They would probably want to rename them 'red bull London' or something like that.
