The most boring part of the game but . . .

Who didn't have palpitations within 20/30 seconds on Sunday when the ball got ferried backwards after our kick off under a bit of pressure via Skrtel (ffs) to the keeper who slices it out of play in our own half?

What's wrong with just taking a run up and a long punt to put the ball out of play close to the opposition corner flag and marking tight from their throw in?

some kind of mental thing to give everyone a touch as soon as possible?

don't see what's wrong with pretending we're in possession of the ball in the centre circle and just take it from there

Apart from the fact that we actually ARE in possession in the centre circle so need to pretend - and the fact that there are no forward passes available for a few seconds at least.

It happens on too many of our corners, too.

Mignolet must be paranoid about stubbing one to an opposition player because he skies them all. That slice barely went 30 yards.

And i'd like to see players use the outside of the foot more. We don't really have a lefty who can take a good freekick so why not have Suarez and Gerrard standing over one so that everyone thinks its going to be an outswinger or near post...and then quick as a flash it's heading towards the far corner from the outside of the right foot.

Suarez's second at Norwich had a touch of reverse swing on it

Well in. I was absolutely racking my brains for something to complain about after Sunday but I had nothing

He slices at least once a game and from what I can see he's late on the ball i.e. it gets trapped under him, end result a slice..

think it's perhaps the only occasion i endorse the teachings of reep and hughes. get it up the yard and away from your own bloody goal at kick-off and don't risk putting yourselves under pressure from the first whistle. in fact for a high pressing team, boxing them in in their own full-back area in the first thirty seconds and maybe forcing a mistake makes oodles of sense.

So much emphasis is placed on possession nowadays that I think launching it upfield from the kick-off just isn't seen as desirable - "field position" is considered less desirable than possession of the football, maybe??

this is what I want to see:

Flanno and Johnson take the kick off, and pass it back to Lucas who is on the edge of the circle in our half - all 3 pretty much stay where they are

the other seven are all stood on the half way line

when Lucas gets it, he flicks it up once or twice until he gets the ball set, then lobs it with a high trajectory so that lt's landing on their 18 yard box

from k.o to when the ball would land should take about 6 seconds

that give the seven lads, 6 seconds to sprint to the edge of the box and challenge for the header

given the trajectory of the lob, a long, headed clearance will be impossible and a second ball opportunity is the most likely outcome, but the oppo will start from a kick off formation whereas we'll have seven lads bearing down on them and still be well covered in defence

Whats to stop 8 players forming a tight crescent shape and running forward flat out. Tight behind is Luis with the ball. The crescent cant be impeded as such, runs straight into the oppo box, breaks and Luis buries it. Job done.

The obvious answer would be the law relating to obstruction ... but it doesn't exist any more.

I guess the 'crescent' could be deemed to be impeding the progress of an opponent, contravening Law 12??

The look Mingolet gave Skrtel tells you all you need to know about that.

Exactly, its not the keepers strong suit yet Skrtel upon seeing no one is in acres of space s***s himself and gives it back to the keeper no matter whether the keeper wants it or not.

Its the most annoying aspect of our play.
