muleskinner Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Vertonghen will be out for them. Get Luis up against Dawson as often as possible and we can win this.
billybunter Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Cant understand any mention of Aspas in the team. Rodgers clearly doesn't fancy him, and his performances this season hardly help his cause.

Red Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Johnson • Skrtel • Sakho • Flanagan Lucas • Allen Sterling • Alberto • Couthino Suarez ... Same as Epieur's
Florist Cinema Pond Goal Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Last season there we had Downing at LB and Enrique at LW so anything is an improvement on that.
Conrad Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) assuming Henderson, Gerrard and Sturridge are all outMignoletJohnson-Sahko-Agger-Flanagan Lucas-Allen Sterling-Coutinho-Moses Suarez it's not great, and it shows up the direness of the summer again. yellow jumper Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 kelly agger sakho johnson think there's an argument for playing genuine width on at least one side in front of that. sterling and henderson could be useful making runs in behind their high line.
Bigal Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Mignolet, Sinclair, Suarez, Yesil, Aspas, Sterling, Coutinho, Moses, Lucas, Ngoo, Rossiter. Rossiter is the gamble. Lucas can sit. then its just the charge of the red brigade.
Chili Palmer Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 SM Johnson Skrtel Sakho Flanagan Allen Lucus Alberto Moses Coutinho Suarez a 1-0 win for us, Suarez getting the goal...obviously.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 -------------------------Mignolet ----------------Toure ------Skrtel-------Sahko Johnson-------Lucas-------Allen----------Cissoko/Agger/Flanagan -----------------------------Coutinho ---------------------Aspas-------------Suarez Its hard to see a team that doesn't involve 3 at the back in the absence of Gerrard & Henderson. I'd go along with that team but swap Sterling for Aspas purely for direct running and initial burst of pace. Sturridge is a big miss for this. Spurs need a headache behind them when they squeeze up and we don't have any pace for that. Sterling is the closest we have to that. I also think that Walker or Vertonghen would swallow him up if he was played wide.
Molby Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 we don't have 3 cms available that is f***ing grim they have pacy wide men so we could play Johnson on the right ahead of Flanagan but then we're exposed on the left and in CM so I'd go for an Italia 1982-style orthodox sweeper system to soak up their nippy but unsophisticated wide men and the odd foray from their midfielders, then hit them on the break Mig AggerJohnson Toure Sahko FlanaganSterling Lucas Allen Coutinho Suarezdefend on the 18 yard line and replicate Tardelli's goal in the 1982 world cup final (and Altobelli's) now and again; Agger in the Scirea role, which he's capable of
Stevie H Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 atkinson started the last two match threads and we opened up cans of whupass on our opponents. gutmann is asking for a hiding here. and three at the back when they play just the isolated soldado up top remains mentalness.
Conrad Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 and three at the back when they play just the isolated soldado up top remains mentalness. Absolument

Swipe Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Worried about this. Their midfield isn't the same without Modric, but Sandro and Paulinho are good. Wouldn't have Flanaghan in the team personally. Would rather stick Agger there if need be. Or move Johnson.
Stevie H Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 unless it's a ploy to sucker their support players in and provide cover for our fbs vs their wide players, as we sit deep, relax, watch the game from our vantage point on the 18 yard line, then cut them to shreds on the break 1982 style sitting deep against these is what they want. soldado's a penalty box striker and the closer to our goal we let them play the nearer their creative players get to him. rather press them and push them back towards their two holding midfielders really and get our players closer to saurez and suarez running at their slightly iffy centre backs.
yellow jumper Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 flanagan was pretty poor v west ham i thought. immediate improvement after kelly came on. also think lennon or townsend not great match ups for him. I'd put johnson there and ask him to stop their winger coming inside. sitting deep against these is what they want. soldado's a penalty box striker and the closer to our goal we let them play the nearer their creative players get to him. rather press them and push them back towards their two holding midfielders really and get our players closer to saurez and suarez running at their slightly iffy centre backs. not how west ham or newcastle won there though. they did sit deep and narrow, and look to frustrate. both rode their luck though. i'd expect us to play more on the counter. my only slight issue with that is suarez can get sucked deep or wide at times which might leave us an issue getting out. having said all this i thought we did well there last season after a calamitous opening 20 minutes. dominated ball and chances.
Beardsley Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'd put Johnson on the left to handle Lennon/Walker - Kelly on the right (or Flanno). Sakho & Agger in the middle of defense. Lucas - Allen Sterling - Coutinho - Alberto Suarez
rednotdead Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 They to defeating this lot is to stop them shooting from distance so I'm not sure 3 cbs helps unless one if specifically employed to close down advancing midfielders.
