I was thinking the same thing watching a match over the weekend ... then Ray Winstone's voice convinced me that "it's all abaaaaht the in play" and I realised that match fixing probably isn't really an issue.

We have allegations in non-league, and in the championship and League 1

But I'm sure the richest of the lot, the Barclays Premiership is squeaky clean. Players are paid so much that they don't need a few extra to get a card or whatever. Honest.

I do think that spot fixing in the Premiership is less common than in the lower leagues where players are less well paid. But I would be stunned if the league was anything even close to squeaky clean. (I appreciate that you're being sarcastic in your post!)

Spot fixing has been going on in the top division since spreadbetting started.

I remember the mancs booting it out straight from the kick-off years ago, think Beckham was involved.

The biggest alleged culprits were West Ham under Harry Redknapp

The occasion I mentioned just seemed so blatant, yet nobody mentioned it.

My memory isn't quite so clear but I think there was something very similar with Frank Lampard, possibly even in a couple of consecutive games. Ball rolled back to him and he just tw*tted it 30 yards off the pitch.

It's unfortunate that a particular news source has been central to these revelations but DJ Campell, Sam Sodje among players accused of spot fixing in league matches. Strangely low key coverage of it across the Telegraph, Indy and others.

Know the Sodje's through a friend. The family is devastated.

I think there are similarities with the phone hacking scandal. Once that came to light, you could look at various newspaper articles and question how they knew what they did. With this, you could look at certain red cards and other acts on a football pitch that initially seemed bizarre and now consider them to be suspicious

I thought it was WHU? Unless there are multiple incidents, but the one I remember - from k/o it was welted out for a throw. The player on the wing to whom the ball was apparently played was incredulous - arms out like what the f*** was that?

They shouldn't be such a bunch of f*cking cheats then.

Allegedly, of course.

Strange that this was never big news.

Pretty sure it was discussed on here.

There was also a highlights video showing something very similar at Southampton but from around 2001 / 2002. Ball was kicked off and someone launched it straight out of play
