House Alarm

Just moved into a new house that had a house alarm fitted. Just called the local security company who used to maintain it for the previous owner and they reckon that it's gonna cost me £250 to service it before they'll consider monitoring it again. So, now I'm looking at otehr options. I've seen deals for ADT and the like but have no clue about whether they're just over-priced or even if they're any good. Any forumites who can provide a bit of advice?
