Cobs Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 So then, the biggest league game since Craven Cottage in 2009, win it and we (may) go top of the League. Either way it will mark us down us unquestionably in the title race this season whether we want it to or not - the press will be full of it (same way they'll dismiss us as pretenders if we're defeated) It's a massive test for Brendan and the players at a ground where we've a record that's not as bad as I initially though... W1 D4 L2 in the League thumping WBA was a massive fillip - so what do we do, stick or twist? Same XI, same formation or does Coutinho come back? a switch to a flat back 4 (who gets dropped)? Enrique back in for Cissokho? Moses return to play wide? Hendo remains? what say you?
muleskinner Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 same 11, Coutinho to come on and finish them off.
épieur Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Don't expect a win, have no right to either, but by golly - a win here would be absolutely massive.
Case Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 It's THE big test for this formation isn't it? They play just one up top so two of Toure, Skrtel or Sakho will be pulled all over the place at any point in time if our wing backs and Lucas don't do a very good job. But if they DO (and I like that Johnson is getting fitter) then our forward line will hurt them. My worry, as always, is at Left Wing Back. Ramsey and Ozil, let alone Sagna/Jenkinson will really put a lot of pressure on Cissokho. Massive game. We could be 1st or 5th or anywhere in between by the end of the weekend. Same starting XI for me, although I'd toy (just toy, mind) with Kelly at RB and Johnno on the left.
rednotdead Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Three in the middle let alone two plus Coutinho could easily see us overrun there with Ramysey, Wiltshire, Arteta, Cazorla and whoever replaces Flamini. But I'd stick to the same team and formation and win 3-2.
Romario Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 same 11, Coutinho to come on and finish them off.I'd go with this. They'll be more afraid of our forward line than we will be of theirs.

Kvarme Ate My Food Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'd go flat back four.Drop Skrtel.Put Coutinho in behind Suarez and Sturridge. If Suarez wasn't in such immense goalscoring form, I'd consider playing Suarez as Barnes and Coutinho as Beardsley to Sturridge's Aldo, but you have to play Suarez right up front at the moment.

rednotdead Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Left wing is crucial too as you could easily see Arsenal trying to get 2 or 3 against one there with Ramsay, Ozil and Sagna as they did against Napoli in Champions League. Edited October 28, 2013 by rednotdead

I'd go with same XI and switch to your formation if we need goals. agger for skrtel though
fred milne Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I'd be worried if Cissokho is at LWB. I'd rather we used Henderson or Kelly at RWB and switched Johnson over if Enrique isn't available.
Mike Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Cissokho was not nearly as bad as being made out and I'd probably have him ahead of the mad Spaniard anyway. Kelly starting is a ridiculous idea.
fred milne Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Cissokho was not nearly as bad as being made out and I'd probably have him ahead of the mad Spaniard anyway. You must be joking. Enrique has his faults but Cissokho looks like an accident waiting to happen.
Red Yoda Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 ---------------------Mignolet Johnson-----Toure-----Sakho------Cissokho -------Gerrard------Lucas------Henderson ----------------------Coutinho ---------------Suarez-----Sturridge Johnson and Cissokho play a little more pragmatically , not so many runs forward , look to play as tight together as possible
Logic Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Keep a winning XI and formation as much as possible. Rather switch it around if it isn't working or if we need a goal during the game.
Hassony Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Can't see us changing the system or the personnel at the back
