I think this is an interesting point Enrique made about the emergence of Iniesta et al into the Barca team, especially in regard to LFC and our current crop of young guns; "A lot of players don’t realise that Iniesta and Xavi had lots of games on the bench. Only Messi walked into the first team. Young players have to understand, adapt and learn. They have to learn little by little otherwise there is too much pressure in them."

Jose Enrique's five-year stay at Liverpool is over.

The Spaniard has been granted permission to find himself a new club, and will not return to Melwood again having been informed his services were no longer required at the training ground.

Enrique's Anfield contract, worth around £65,000 a week, is officially due to expire next month, but with the 30-year-old nowhere near the first-team picture under Jurgen Klopp it has been agreed that the left back is free to plan his next move. It is believed he has already said his goodbyes at Melwood.

Enrique has managed just three senior appearances for the Reds this season – although he captained the club in the FA Cup third round replay with Exeter City.

His last outing came as a substitute against West Ham on January 30, and he has not featured in a matchday squad since February 9.

 

In total, he played 99 times for Liverpool, scoring twice. He was a member of Kenny Dalglish's League Cup winning side in 2012, playing in the final win over Cardiff City at Wembley.

He was a regular throughout his first two seasons on Merseyside, but fell down the pecking order after a long-term knee injury sustained during the 2013/14 campaign.

He was informed by former boss Brendan Rodgers that he had no future with the club, but rejected chances to join both West Brom and Newcastle earlier this season, stating his desire to stay and fight for his place.

But with Alberto Moreno, Brad Smith and the fit-again Jon Flanagan all ahead of him in the pecking order, there was no likelihood of him reviving his Reds career.

 

 

Was on 65k a year? WTF sort of deal was that. No wonder he didn't want to leave.

he had the simplest approach to any player ive ever seen during the season we came 2nd. As soon as he had the ball, he looked to see where Suarez was and tried to give him the ball. I dont think he passed it to another player all season.

what game was it where he came on fairly recently (in the last 12 months) and went over straight away to take a free kick and completely made a right f*** up of it?

When we first got him, he was monstrous. Nobody muscled him off the ball and he was seriously quick. Just a shame that he was completely vacant.

Should be on a lot of best goals-collections with that Suarez goal vs Newcastle. Great pass too.

If we're talking wasters on ridiculous wages, wasn't Joe Cole much worse? At least we got one decent season from Enrique.

Never minded Enrique, was slightly above average, neither more nor less. Getting crocked was hardly his own career choice, think the palpations get seriously over played on here.
