Romario Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I know he's been massively out of favour with Rodgers (one of the few decisions I don't agree with) but he stepped up today and was a monster. Not long ago he was our player of the year. During Rodgers first season I didn't think any of our defense came out of the season looking all that amazing yet Skrtel paid the price for an evolving team that was far far too open from midfield. I know we've just signed cover but I have a soft spot for him and wonder if the time out of the team has focused him somewhat. Good reliable CB's are hard to find and Sakho will take bedding in and as some have said his potential is massive but he's a bit rough and ready. Personally I'd be sad to see him go this window and feel we've let someone who was out of form go rather than a poor player. I was wondering what others felt as I get the impression people are fine with him being off which surprises me a little as when he works well with Agger they both look great. Anyone?
Ombudsam Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 If he's having one of his "on" seasons then kepp him and sell him to Rafa in the summer before he has one of his "off" seasons
Hieronymus Bosch Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Think he's been unfairly sidelined. Can't see him staying now though, so hope we get a decent fee.
Farmer's Tan Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The only reason he is upping his game is because he see's he is about to be replaced. he should have kept his performance level high and he wouldn't have a problem. I would get rid at the right price seeing as we have adequate cover, we need an aerially dominant centerback not some tattoo laden wimp.
Zoob Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Was Skrtel any worse than Agger last year? I'm not really sure he was.
MFletcher Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 There's a stronger argument for dropping Agger than there is for dropping Skrtel.

meepins Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 He isn't suited to what we need. It probably won't be this window because it's so late.
Rimbeux Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I'd sell him in Jan and hopefully be in a position to
Farmer's Tan Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 You talking about Agger or Skrtel? Both really but seeing as Skrtel is on the chopping block then in this case it's him.
Hus Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I'd happily keep him, he has proved reliable in the past and as today showed on form he is quality
meepins Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I'd sell him in Jan and hopefully be in a position towith a strong league position to entice targets that may have been unsure before.
fellafeen Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 By default you'd want to keep all but I think we might have one too many centre backs now. I was hoping Kelly would get a run there this season but don't see that happening now - still, nice problem to have
yellow jumper Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 these games never really been his problem i don't think. more issues with stoke and west ham than he does the CL teams. he'll do well on the continent.
Dan Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 There's a stronger argument for dropping Agger than there is for dropping Skrtel. Nah.
Kite Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Would definitely be more inclined to let Agger go ahead of him, if the choice was there.
D.Boon Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 If he's happy to sit on the bench for spells then he can stay
Foo Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Put him in a side that is pushed back and he's ok, but as soon as he's in a side that are pushing high, he's a nono.
Leroy Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 Stupid to get rid, one of our top 3 players today. Loves it here also. Keep.
Crazy Horse Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I think I saw him kick the ball out of play when Evra was down injured today. Sell him.
JonShar Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Skrtel has always been good in matches where we're under a lot of pressure. He struggles in the matches we dominate - his concentration isn't that of a top CB, and he ends up getting caught out/making a mistake.
New York Red Posted September 2, 2013 Posted September 2, 2013 Impressive as hell today. I hope this uncertainty will give him the kick up the ass and turn him into another great member of the squad.
