A polite kick in the bum perhaps. I thought Lucas would get it.

Heard ages ago it was decided it was Agger, have heard it mentioned on a couple of podcasts as well, assumed it was common knowledge.

Would have been stunned if it had been announced as anyone else.

Been on holidays recently so haven't been tuned in that much.

Kind of disappointed in that in a way, he wasn't all that good last season, in the past we've taken honours away from players whose performance drifted; perhaps this time it will be different and maybe get him to raise his game and start paying attention for the full 90 mins every match - hopefully anyhow. Certainly wish it isn't simply a ploy to stop him joining Barca and nothing else.

Aggers been here a bit longer and isn't he the longest serving player after Stevie? I suspect Lucas will get the nod for VC when Stevie retires and Agger will step into the Captain position (ideal world where they are both here).

An excerpt from an interview with former fitness coach Darren Burgess

And which players was he most impressed with when he watched the group train during his time at Melwood?

Stevie (Gerrard) would have to be one all-round, he said. But one player who gave everything, at every single session was Dan Agger and we had to monitor him a little bit more and reduce his workload because he couldnt walk out onto the pitch without giving 1000%.

Other snippets not linked to Agger but worth a mention;

Young striker Jordan Ibe is a real finisher, a real poacher and so I look forward to seeing how he goes in the next few years.

People like Maxi Rodriguez and Fabio Aurelio, when he was fit, there touch in five-a-side Ill never see that again.

Maxi, who was my favourite player at the time, in a five-a-side game was a different class. When him and Luis (Suarez) were playing on the same team together they were unstoppable because they had that connection.

As for the opposition clubs, theres one European trip he will never forget.

I remember when we went to Napoli in the Europa League and before the game we went on the bus to the stadium and the streets were lined with kids as young as six or seven to adults as old as 70 to 80 who were throwing eggs at the bus and jeering and booing and making obscene gestures, he said.

I thought how good is this, it was just brilliant; a really fantastic memory.

I've no problem with it.

I think he gives his all and has earned it.

Interesting about Ibe, wouldn't have had him down as a poacher on the bits I've seen (would have thought that was more Sinclair) but if he has that element to his game then that is great.

Aurelio and Maxi were just lovely footballers. Real shame we didn't have either at their very best, for different reasons. Thimk they'd have been perfect for how we now try to play, too.

Agger won't rule out Barca move as Catalan giants want to agree Liverpool fee

Daniel Agger's representatives have indicated he would be open to a move to Barcelona if Liverpool can agree a fee for the defender's release.

Despite Liverpool denying they had received an offer for Agger, it is understood Barcelona have made a £15million bid to secure the Denmark international, who is Liverpool's vice captain.

Brendan Rodgers is adamant Liverpool will retain Agger but that may change today as Barcelona wait to see if David Luiz will push to leave Chelsea.

Agger is a significantly cheaper option than Luiz and a new bid will give Rodgers a problem.

Agger signed a new contract last season but his agent, Per Steffensen said: 'We are aware that Barcelona have made an offer for Daniel that Liverpool have rejected.

'Daniel has a contract with Liverpool for the next three years and it would be up to the clubs to agree a fee for his transfer in order for that to change.'

Liverpool are monitoring developments with Paris St Germain's Mamadou Sakho and have made a £5million offer for Granada left-back Guilherme Siquiera.

I've always been a big Agger fan and felt injuries have stopped him from being widely recognised as top class. However, found him very frustrating last season. Too many individual errors and lapses in concentration costing us silly goals. Was hoping for a calmer season this time around, but today's daft error have got the alarm bells ringing.

So make me look daft Danny. I love your Hansenesque style and general ability on the ball, and in the days of irritating stars seeking moves away your commitment is a joy to behold. I'm hoping this thread will show me I dwell on your mistakes too much...

Game 1 - generally very comfortable, one stupid mistake where you owe our new keeper for bailing you out.

He was pretty good today, apart from the mental handball.

Lets face it, it was a bit Suarez, in that you can't quite comprehend that someone would do that intentionally, but the ref had no choice.

Agger watch? So this is somewhere to jump on one of our most loyal servants should he make a mistake? Grand.

It's a chance to monitor how he plays this season, good or bad

We can even be really dramatic about it if you like...

Are we getting threads to monitor every player?

Ha.. on the main board there are threads for

Coutinho, Henderson, Suarez, Agger, Sturridge, Mignolet, Toure, Aspas, Sterling...

as well as Reina, Carra, and Downing...

if we include Allen, Borini, and Enrique in the scapegoats thread

that leaves Glen, Lucas and Gerrard treated like dogs :D

I can laugh about it now since they didn't score, but it's one of those weird handballs that happens once every x hundred crosses into the box.it's as if the hand just takes on a life of it's own and can't help but attack the ball.

His arm being there was a consequence of his head-down-foot-up attempt at defending. Its almost physically impossible to do what Agger did WITHOUT putting his arm there to maintain body balance.

The hand ball doesn't bother me, it was his attempt at defending that free kick that was worrying.

You say it was a weird handball and it was, but it was because his actions were weird. This isn't a new problem though.
