Southern US road trip

So I'm getting married at the start of November, and as the missus to be and I are big music fans we're flying to New Orleans for the start of the honeymoon. Roughly two weeks later we fly from Nashville to New York for a few days before coming back home.

Planning on spending 4 nights in New Orleans and then making the trip from New Orleans to Nashville in a rental car (mustang convertibe - yee haw!) via Memphis. Got about 10 days to do it.

Anywhere else we should go to that's not too far out of the way? Have read some good things about Chatanooga and the smokey mountains on TripAdvisor. Anyone been? What's forum opinion on New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville?
