Sleep Study

so, on the advice of my doctor, and the insistence of my wife, I went for an overnight sleep study last night.

 

what a horrible night.

 

first, they cover your head and shoulders in sticky goo, apply pads and stickers and then hook you up to a remote monitor. then, they put a sensor under your nostrils, hook up an oxygen monitor and say have a good night's sleep.

 

then, after what appeared to be about 5 minutes, the 2 "aides" come in and try to put a mask on me because I am having occasional sleep apnea episodes. it is at this point that I discover that I am clinically claustrophobic. no matter which mask they try, I stop breathing. the full face mask sends me into a blind panic. I now know why I had so much trouble trying to scuba dive in the past.

 

the aides give up and tell me to go back to sleep

 

SLEEP!!, these 2 people just tried to suffocate me and they want me to sleep. at 5am, I gave up, called them into the room and told them I was leaving.

 

that was a horrible night.
