My Sunday team the Cronton Woodcutters reached the Warrington & District Sunday Premier Cup Final this season which was played on Sunday.

We are in division one of the Warrington & District Sunday league with the club having started 2 years ago. Massive challenge, local derby as we were playing our rivals in Widnes The Hurricanes (we both beat all the Warrington teams on the way) who are 2nd in the Premier League (with lots of games in hand) and 7/8 out of their starting 11 are semi professional against only a couple of ours.

We were the first team in 36 years from outside the Premier League to reach the final and beat four Premier League sides on the way.

It was a tight game, couple of hundred there and loads more supporting us cheering us on - we missed three gilt edged chances in the first half hour and hit the inside of the post, but they played some good football and went 1-0 up about 10 minutes before half time. Both teams had chances to score but it remained 1-0 until two minutes from the end when we equalised with a header from a set piece (cue wild celebrations!).

Very tight game in extra time with us shading it, they hit the bar, we had 2 decent penalty shouts but it went to a penalty shoot out. Both teams scored their first two, then their keeper saved our third. Our keeper saved their third back, then we score our fourth and our keeper saves again. Our lad steps up, smashes it in the bottom corner and everyone went mad. I got to lift the cup as skipper - really was amazing, best feeling ever and especially after last year's events for me personally.

When our lad put that winning pen away, he turned round and we were all sprinting towards him I had a little taste of what it was like for our lads in Istanbul (although on a slightly less grand scale at the Grange Sports & Social Club with the price at the turnstiles £1 to get in!). Was out until 10am Monday morning celebrating - what a feeling (although I've not been feeling too hot since, I've had suicide Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday is a little better). I know its only Sunday footy, but it was about as big as it gets at that level and we made history!
