fred milne Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 No midweek games means that some of the players who have looked in need of a break (Gerrard, Allen, Sterling) should look a bit fresher against Villa. Suarez too obviously. Assuming Enrique is fit again by then, the team pretty much picks itself. The only question mark is who gets the 3rd forward spot.
Alonso Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique Shelvey Lucas Sahin Sterling Suarez Suso Gerrard and Allen have been off form lately and if Villa come for a point we'll need the creativity of Suso and Sahin to try and open things up. Shelvey can add that drive from midfield.

fred milne Posted December 10, 2012 Author Posted December 10, 2012 I'm going to jinx this now but if we beat Villa on Saturday then that is 3 wins on the bounce in the league. It must be a while since we've managed that.

yellow jumper Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 january 2011 we won 4 in a row under kenny. last time we won 5 league games in a row was late 08/09 season.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) Villa's away record is W1 D2 L5 - scoring just 4 whilst conceding 15. However, they come into this game on the back of 3 draws and 1 win in which they have scored only 2 but conceded just 1 so there are signs of some improvement and tightening up at the back since they conceded 8 in 2 games to the two Manchester teams in early November. They play on Tuesday in the Capital One Cup away to Norwich so some injurytime wouldnt go a miss. We're heavy favourites at 2/5 with a Villa win at 15/2. They could line up as follows; Guzan Lowton Clark Baker Lichaj Bannan Westwood Herd Holman Agbonlahor Benteke If we have a clean bill of health I would go with the following but there is no update yet on Enrique; Reina Johnson Skrtel Agger Downing Gerrard Lucas Allen Sterling Suarez Enrique Edited December 10, 2012 by Rory Fitzgerald

I think Rodgers will be eager to give them games together especially with the next 2 games having a 6-7 days gap in between with no mid-weekers. Perhaps over the Christmas when we play Stoke, QPR and Sunderland.

Hard to think of another occasion when we've capitulated like that. The anti-Istanbul.

There was one where Les Ferdinand ran us feckin ragged all on his own that sticks in my memory, think they went down that year too.

Yeah, I'm assuming that it shouldnt be too much of a problem if they risked playing him with a tight hammy against WHU hoping that it would sort itself out over the course of the game. Is Wisdom fit?

The_Adder Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Our back six is as strong as anything in the league for me: Reina Johnson - Srktel - Agger - Enrique Lucas The rest lacks balance and goalscorers.

Halloween i think probably Ferdinand skipping about in the mud, the only player they had who got over the halfway line all night in open play, winning free kicks every time he was on the ball.
