Leo No.8 Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) What did we think of him last night? Been waiting for him to get his chance - thought he was in and out as you'd expect but there were some little moments of magic in there. Very gifted kid with that low centre of gravity, intelligence and a terrific strike on him, if he gets chances he may turn out to be another find the way Sterling has. Ironically the thinness of our squad (and the approach of our new manager) could lead to some really good players coming through our system and into the first team. It may prove good timing as I think everyone felt the crop of youngsters we have had coming through is one of the most talented the club have had, perhaps ever as a whole. Might be a difficult year this year but then long term we reap the benefits. Edited September 21, 2012 by Leo No.8

It may prove good timing as I think everyone felt the crop of youngsters we have had coming through I'd one of the most talented the club have had, perhaps ever as a whole. You can see he's massively talented. It would be interesting to see him play a bit more and get some sub appearances in the league. He's got the ability to open teams up, his close control is superb.
Mike Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 His movement off the ball isn't great but that can be taught. With the ball he's really good, he plays with his head up which is always a great sign. Great first touch and he can play between the lines which we are crying out for and may save us about £20m+ in the transfer market if he matures. His contract expires in the summer though, why we spent on new contracts for Flannagan instead of him I don't know...we haven't sorted a new one out for a reason, one would presume.

I thought all the youngsters played well but we have to take into account who we were playing also (i hate to put a dampener on it), that being said this Europa league could prove to be a great way of testing our youth and giving them a real visible route to becoming part of the first team, if they can't take this opportunity then they can't complain nor can we that they were never given a chance.
Ripley Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I would have a small wager on Robinson being the first choice LB by the end of the season.
The Hitman Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I would have a small wager on Robinson being the first choice LB by the end of the season.Couldn't be any worse than Enrique.Looks to me like his head's completely gone - wouldn't trust him anywhere near a PL game at the moment. That average winger had him all over the place.
Rich Gobey Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I would have a small wager on Robinson being the first choice LB by the end of the season. Says as much about Enrique as it does about Robinson. I'd like to see him get his chance though as the Kelly-Johnson thing is less than the sum of its parts.

Yeah wouldn't be surprised - very composed young fullback and very quick. He's another one that looks first team ready and Enrique's form is going to give him a shot if he continues as he has been. Looks like Johnson is first choice there now with Kelly right back.
Bootle Buck Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Couldn't be any worse than Enrique.Looks to me like his head's completely gone - wouldn't trust him anywhere near a PL game at the moment. That average winger had him all over the place. Watched the third goal of there's again. He clearly calls off Brad Jones like he is going to clear the ball then gets nowhere near it as the winger comes in and chips it over Jones. He is absolutely woeful at the moment. Can't seem to master the basics of defence and his one footedness gets him caught out much more than it did the likes of Riise. Leave one of the youngsters in for an extended run or break the bank for Leighton Baines. Edited September 21, 2012 by Bootle Buck

It may prove good timing as I think everyone felt the crop of youngsters we have had coming through is one of the most talented the club have had, perhaps ever as a whole. Might be a difficult year this year but then long term we reap the benefits. The general lowering of expectations and the devaluing of the cups while in no ways welcome, could be a help to the kids too. They can go into these away games in particular without having the added pressure of people expecting wins regardless of the opposition. If things had gone badly wrong last night nobody would have moaned too much about it. The way Shelvey took his two goals seemed very relaxed. He might not have even gambled to get in the box for the first if the pressure was on to just get a result. Even aside from his goal, I thought Wisdom was quite impressive.
jonnyc Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Would be more than happy with Robinson playing on Sunday.

Leave one of the youngsters in for an extended run or break the bank for Leighton Baines.i thought he was shouting at Jones to get back on his line! anyway, when he first signed he'd beat the attacker for pace, shoulder him off the ball and then come away with it - that looked cool and he looked immense.. halfway through last season his head started to go and i was asking for him to f*** the cool stuff off and just slide tackle the man to get the ball.. he's all over the place now.. what the f*** has happened to him?
torn Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I would have a small wager on Robinson being the first choice LB by the end of the season. Was impressed with Suso, talent and hard work. Think Johnson will be first choice LB until we buy that welsh fullback from Swansea.
épieur Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) Obviously has bags of ability. Needs to work on his movement - was in and out of the game. It's funny how the youngsters are stepping up in in diametrical opposition to a number of seniors letting the team down. I think this could be a transitory season in a positive sense - Ending the season with a first team squad full of young players on the up and showing they are good enough for this level. Kelly, Coates, Allen, Shelvey, Henderson, Borini are all 22 or younger. And then you have teenagers like Sterling, Suso, Yesil, Wisdom and Robinson who all look like they can break into the first team squad this season. Makes me wonder: Who has the youngest squad in the PL? Would be more than happy with Robinson playing on Sunday. Why didn't he start last night? Edited September 21, 2012 by Dr Nunchuks Dingleberry
Rich Gobey Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Why didn't he start last night? Ooh, surprise. for Sunday or still injured?

Enrique was dire again last night but he's our only senior recognised LB, so you can forgive Rodgers wanting to see what he can get out of him. He's not going to last long at the club at this rate though. I hope we get to see Robinson in the next Europa game.

MFletcher Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Was Enrique s*** then? What the f*** has happened to him?
épieur Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Was Enrique s*** then? What the f*** has happened to him? Headless chicken. Isn't fit either to compensate. Looked like a right donkey out there.
Earl Hafler Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Was Enrique s*** then? What the f*** has happened to him? He was terrible. Part of the problem, which is similar to the one in attack, is he's so eager to right his wrongs that he's trying too hard and thought is something from the distant past. " I'm gonna do this, i'm gonna do this ".
Gethin Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 What's happened to Flannagan? Not going to make it?

Read somewhere that we offered him a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if he signed it though. He's very talented but he needs to find his way into games better as you say, at his age Pacheco was much better at finding space and making an impact on games but I think Suso has more ability than him. Was impressed with Suso, talent and hard work. Think Johnson will be first choice LB until we buy that welsh fullback from Swansea. He busted his ankle pretty badly, multiple fractures. He might not be back in time for next season. Isn't Robinson injured? Nah, played for the reserves last week. I think he was on the bench last night.
yellow jumper Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 (edited) he's so eager to right his wrongs that he's trying too hard think there's something in that. other thing yesterday was he didn't look fit. actually thought he started really well first 30. was using the ball well. but went to pieces. on the mistake for the goal he did well to cover carra initially, and jones was dithering, but having put himself in the position to deal with it he should have been a lot more decisive in making the clearance. not as down on him as others, think he can be a good player for us still, but clearly needs to improve on that performance if he wants to stay in the team.
