He's become lazy has Pepe Reina, his attitude used to be spot on but now I'm not so convinced. His positioning is off, the effort doesn't seem to be there, it's a sad state of affairs really and I wouldn't be surprised to see this being his final season at the club.

On his day he's one of the best in the league, but his penalty saving award is abysmal and he's just not a commanding presence anymore.

as in what? he just received a crap certificate instead of a gold clock or something? maybe that's what's unsettled him

Sadly I agree. For 2/3 seasons he has a mistake in him that wasn't there before. I do think he needs some real competition though. Look at who has been pushing for his place

People think it's to do with John Achterberg, but I think that's a poor excuse. Pepe has been sounding out a move in the past to Arsenal and came very close to doing so if I recall correctly. He's also put on weight, but I'm not one to talk.

I don't think he's lazy at all, he's making stupid mistakes though and needs to be taken aside and spoken to by that almost fit lesbian off America's Biggest Loser.

last night was a howler, don't think it was a confidence issue or him becoming lazy , not sure what positioning had anything to do with it

Genuinely reckon he's made more errors than James did to earn his calamity tag. His rep was forged 3-4 years ago and in the days of our spine being Agger, Carra, the best midfield...and Torres he was their equal. This is a massive year for him.

He didn't have his body behind the ball, that and coming for the ball for the first Man City goal are basic errors.

That Arsenal goal at Anfield. When Wigan scored the winner he had a look of resignation about it before the player even got the ball.

Should be a tasty thread but hard not to disagree. Don't think he's been the same since Rafa left.

Don't think the club as a whole have been tbh. A few need to start stepping it up this season.

I don't think any of us on here would know what his attitude is like or if he's lazy in training.

So, that's just speculative nonsense.

What is apparent is he's not the goalkeeper he was a few years ago. He is making too many mistakes for them to be classed as 'uncharecteristic'.

I think a decent back up to focus his mind could be the answer but I don't think we have the money.

i think a lot of it is being lazy though. Lazy mistakes, ones that come about through sheer lack of concentration. switching goalkeeping coaches probably hasnt helped him improve, but some of the mistakes he has been making the last 12-24 months have been things you'd still be annoyed at if they happened in Sunday league. His decision making on crosses too has become erratic. Its not a blip this, he has been on poor form for a while and whether thats down to attitude, coaching or whatever, it cant and shouldnt be allowed to continue. He has gone from the best keeper in the prem to one that i think might need replacing. I wouldnt be surprised to see us in for Vorm in January

Think for the City goal there was a little deflection of Skrtel wasn't there which just took it away from him? But could be wrong and even so, might suggest a lack of communication/confidence.

Either way, he came for one in the first half that he missed and Tevez (I think) probably should have scored back post. Also, the one that hit the post was actually dragged back towards goal by Pepe as well - it would have been on oggy.

He's struggling, has been for a while, which is a real shame because he's the best Liverpool keeper I've seen and seems like a top lad. Both those things have bought him a bit of time but there is no hiding place now.

If pushed, I'd say I reckon he will get it back because he's young enough to do so and seems like a determined character.

I am no GK pro, but there was no feet movement, so a result his positioning was wrong and he had to reach for the ball.

The thing with Reina is he never used to make that many spectacular saves (a la Shay Given, De Gea etc) as his positioning was so good and he was so quick off his line that he was almost like a sweeper and was great at one on ones.

Unfortunately he seems to have lost the basics which is what he was so good at, there were times last season when he wasn't even saving 50% of shots on target. I personally don't think all the crap thats gone on at the club has helped him at all (changing of managers, coaches, ownership, losing players) as he seems to get easily rattled (Newcastle last year) and his concentration seems to have gone down the pan.

Would give him the season and see, think his previous form, relatively young age and comittment to the club means he deserves this, but this form cannot continue
