AE Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Not quite Shankly, but he has time to improve........... “You can only sell the dream going forward,” he said. “There’s a lot of nostalgia surrounding this club, but it’s important we recognise this is 2012 and we’re not in the Champions League. “The top players want to play at that level. Steven Gerrard wants to play at that level, Jamie Carragher, they’re players who have won it. “In the coming years we’ll strive towards that. If that’s not enough for a player, then they will go, simple as that.”
Andy-oh-six Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Striving for Champions League 'in the coming years'. What ambition the club is showing these days.
Hieronymus Bosch Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 He talks a good game, no doubt about it. Realistically, though, money will be an incentive for most players. So I hope we prepared to offer enough to compete.
Cam Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Are we really doing a Rodgers Quotes thread?!!! And those are the highlights?!!!!!! Okay... "I'll have chicken, mash and, er, some beans I think. Thanks."
McBain Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Striving for Champions League 'in the coming years'. What ambition the club is showing these days. Not sure if serious but... We have to walk before we can run. We have to get back in the top four before we can seriously think of winning the title. We shouldn't say it's impossible, and i'm sure he doesn't think it is, but I dont expect to hear the manager say our target is winning the league next season, as that would be foolhardy

Flight Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 Practically everything Rodgers has said so far has been spot on but those quotes could easily be Hodgson when he took over. There shouldn't just be nostalgia there should be expectation. And if owners and managers can't handle that then they should f*** off.
Swipe Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 We'll be a club aspiring to finish in the top half next. So what should he say our short-term ambitions are?
whitewidow Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 'I have got an inner belief and an inner faith with God. I do believe spiritually we have to progress because we've been here before. The physical body is just an overcoat for your spirit. At death you take the overcoat off and your spirit will go on to another life in a spirit dimension. 'I think we make mistakes when we are down here and our spirit has to come back and learn. That's why there is an injustice in the world. Why there's certain people born into the world with terrible physical problems and why there's a family who has got everything right, physically and mentally.' Or was that Hoddle?
Swipe Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 "I can move, move, move any mountain." Brendan Rodgers, July 2012.
smithdown Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 So what should he say our short-term ambitions are? I liked it when we went round saying we were Liverpool Football Club and expected to win every football match we played in. They were great days weren't they?
Gomez Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 So what should he say our short-term ambitions are?It was not a response to BR, but to the responder to Andy-oh-six Does BR have to say what our short term ambitions are? As far as I am concerned, our ambition is to win trophies, end of. If he can't say that because the players aren't good or numerous enough, or our owners aren't rich enough, he should say nothing, or skillfully avoid the question. Take each match as it comes is the easy one.

They were great days weren't they? And that's a real short-term goal for the team is it? To "win all our games"? I'd be more concerned if he came out and said something meaningless like that. We need an actual strategy to get us back challenging.

Swipe Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 we should be aiming to be in the top four this season Fine. But not sure we can really say whether thats on until our business is done. And anyone who thinks finishing top four is a given and should be viewed as the bare minimum is a bit naive. We finished 8th last season. There's work to do to get back into the top 4. Even when we were very good under Rafa it would have been a challenge with the emergence of City and the improvement of Spurs.

Swipe Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 it's not a given , but its what the manager should be aiming for Agree. And I can see Smithdown and Gomez's point of not even going into objectives and just keeping schtum. Hard for a new manager of LFC, mind, as it's probably all he's being asked. Talk is cheap though. I'm more interested in who we buy.

It's really not. Need a summer of astute signings that improve the team to a degree that we are, hopefully, back challenging near the top. Much easier said than done, obviously.
anny road Posted July 6, 2012 Posted July 6, 2012 I think he has come across quite well Talking to his audience no doubt but he seems like a focused man who knows what he wants Dont get the analsys of his comments tbh
