A couple of months ago I was talking to a friend about how s*** the season had been. I said to her it could only get worse if:

- Real Madrid won La Liga

- Guardiola left Barca

- Chelsea won the FA cup and Kenny Dalglish got sacked

- Chelsea won the Champions league in a penalty shoot out

- West Ham got promoted

The only things from the list that didn't happen are:

- United win the league on the last day (but jebus)

- Torres scores the winner in the Cup Final

The only things left are:

- Ireland score no goals, get no points and conced 10 goals in the Euros

- Roy Hodgson get's the England job and wins the Euros

- Stewart Downing is player of the tournament

Its turned in to the worst footballing season i can remember and it may get worse.

Financial doping is making me lose the love for the game.

Teams like City, Chelsea, Malaga, PSG, Anzhi (where players live and practice 2010km away because the place is so sh*t) and now the Chinese league are just about killing the game for me.

I have no problem with teams spending money they earn, or even owners putting a bit of investment into the clubs but when some oligarch thieving b*****d buys a team and starts pumping money into them in a clearly unsustainable way we could just as well accept teams starting to put their players on "real" performance enhancing drugs.

It's simply wrong that a team like City wins the league, it's simply wrong that a team like Chelsea wins the CL, it's simply wrong that a team like Malaga gets into the CL and it's simply wrong that a team like Anzhi can have Guus Hiddink and Eto'o in their ranks.

And yes, this season will end with Hodgson winning the f*cking thing. It's written in the stars.

Emergency* consolation in that event:

It isn't "Ireland".

*WWII, sorry.

Completely agree. I've posted it elsewhere but one of the things I dislike most about this is how willing some football fans are to accept this and/or see it as a positively good thing. You wonder just how many human rights abuses or criminal activity some people would be willing to accept from an owner if it guaranteed them the league or a cup win.

The Northern Soul brothers will be fully behind us, particularly if that's how things turn out.

I'm not sure what football fans are expected to do other than accept it? Set up other independant clubs? Our fans seemed pretty noisy when it looked like Shinawatra was going to buy us but if we were talking about US oligarchs rather than Russian / Qatari ones I'm not sure how much would be made about human rights abuses.

When Nottingham Forest signed Trevor Francis for 1m it was televised I think, our position at the moment is a result of us not exploiting the market correctly and I don't know we can sit and complain now that it doesn't suit us because we've been poorly run.

Exactly. It all smacks of sour grapes. The existence of a Chinese League with a bit of money is killing football? Nonsense.

It could possibly be considered wrong that City were winning the league if they had won it by 30 points, as well as winning both cups, but this season has shown that they can be beaten just like anyone else.

think capping wages is the best thing they could do. at the moment it's that more than transfer outlay that's the biggest metric for winning in the sport. and the figures are becoming scandalous. not sure how it would happen though.

How about not letting clubs spend more than they earn and taking a tough line on above market rate and related company sponsorship?
