Metro Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 It's made my week to learn that the Guardian invited Joey Barton into one of their editorial conferences...
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 doubt it. 4 are a given. He pleaded guilty to one - that's 3 games standard, but with 2 reds already in the season, you can see that being 4 or 5 games. They found him guilty of the second offence (headbutt) which he pleaded not guilty to. If Pepe got 3 for his attempt, Barton can't escape his. 12 is actually lenient
Cobs Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 Hard to have major sympathy with Barton cos he acts like such a bell but It's a bit OTT If someone gets a red card for violent conduct and then tells the ref to f*** off they don't get another 3 games on top. 6 games, 9 tops, would have done. Wasn't like he maimed someone. Rooney booted someone up the a*** and the FA sends its lawyers in to fight his corner. Here they dish out 12 games. Not a prayer they'd have given that sort of ban to Rooney, Terry or Gerrard. Teves started it with violent conduct off the ball - when's his FA charge being heard? Or the City player who piled into him after? Bit of consistency required.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 They'd have said 'ref dealt with it' to Rooney and then apologized
Cobs Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) His previous 2 red cards were results of retaliatory action after red card offences on him were missed by officials. Not a complete defence but something for him in mitigation. He's clearly being targeted by opponents. If the officials do their job there's a chance all 3 reds might not have happened. I say might. I know he's no angel. Edited May 23, 2012 by Cobs
muleskinner Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 The Observer and The Guardian will take up his cause and fight his corner, another proud episode in their history of battling human rights abuses around the globe.
Rimbeux Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 be reduced on appealHow? He's been given four games for each of the three, is there a discretionary bit in there?
Stevie H Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 think he should have been done for the tevez red and the kick on aguero, the supposed headbutt on kompany was nothing really. not much different from the usual handbags when a player's already been sent. it's undoubtedly 12 games because of who it is but then he just seems a prick incapable of learning.
cymrococh Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 the supposed headbutt on kompany was nothing really. not much different from the usual handbags when a player's already been sent. I imagine it's about intent though, he's already admitted that he was deliberately trying to goad one of theirs into getting sent off.
Stevie H Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I imagine it's about intent though, he's already admitted that he was deliberately trying to goad one of theirs into getting sent off.that was balls though, he was lying. don't see how what barton did is any way worse than ben thatcher's forearm smash that left pedro mendes unconscious.
Earl Hafler Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 How? He's been given four games for each of the three, is there a discretionary bit in there? They like using the letter of the law when it suits them. Has anything happened to Balotelli or Tevez ?
Bigal Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 City banned Ben Thatcher for 6 games, 2 suspended and then FA gave him another 8 games. which was worse? both is an 12 game ban in total
Dmitch Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 The bloke is a idiot and deserves every day of his ban. The individual incident aint all that bad its just on his previous. If he's too thick to realise that he is a marked man that's his problem!
Nerik Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Red card on Tevez = 3 gamesKick on Aguero = 3 gamesAttempted headbutt on Kompany = 3 gamesPrevious sending offs mean an extra 1-2 games12 is about right
richwilks Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 Red card on Tevez = 3 gamesKick on Aguero = 3 gamesAttempted headbutt on Kompany = 3 gamesPrevious sending offs mean an extra 1-2 games12 is about right Should have had 2 extra for generally being a t***. On a serious note Mascherano got extra for not leaving the pitch as well against Utd all those years ago.
Swipe Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 No appeal from QPR over the ban, but they say they'll now do their own internal investigation. He's a goner.
The walters step over Posted May 25, 2012 Posted May 25, 2012 No appeal from QPR over the ban, but they say they'll now do their own internal investigation. He's a goner. Surely a club can't sack a player over what happens on the pitch?
