matty Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/10/barcelona-lionel-messi-allegation-abuse So let's see all those who jumped on Suarez do the same to Messi now, eh? I wonder if that will happen. I wonder.
AE Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Let's hope the Liverpool PR department are watching..............
Nerik Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Confirms the use of the term in South America as common. Do not blame someone like Diarra taking offence if it is not something he is used to. Still, he seems to have understood that his team mates were not insulting him when using the term.

YNWAdownunder Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Barcelona should sell him. On the cheap to Liverpool so we can properly re-educate him
Billy Dane Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 It's completely different, Messi is from Argentina. It's them Uruguyans that are the problem.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 On the cheap to Liverpool so we can properly re-educate him He'd fit right in at that racist club.
Redray Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 (edited) They will probably get their various witness evidence to not contradict itself either Barca defends Messi over racial abuse claims Barcelona has staunchly defended Lionel Messi over claims he racially abused a black Real Madrid player several seasons ago, calling such claims "well wide of the mark." Dutch midfielder Royston Drenthe, who is currently on loan at Everton, was quoted in a Dutch magazine as saying he was taunted by the Argentina forward and three-time world player of the year during several of their Spanish league encounters. Barcelona steadfastly denied Messi ever abused an opponent. "The player has always shown a maximum respect and sportsmanship towards his rivals, something which has been recognized by his fellow professionals many times, and we are sure that any accusations to the contrary are well wide of the mark," the Spanish club said in a statement on Thursday. "His behavior throughout his career has always been exemplary." Drenthe, who is black, claims Messi used the word "negro" in a negative tone. Liverpool's Luis Suarez was banned for eight games for taunting Manchester United's Patrice Evra withthe same word seven times in a match between the two teams. Drenthe was quoted as telling Helden magazine that he was"bothered" by the tone in which Messi "always called me 'negro, negro.'" Drenthe said he realized that the term is commonly used in South American countries, but that "we cannot stand it." Drenthe played several seasons at Madrid before being loaned to Hercules last season, and he moved to Everton this season. The 25-year-old never cemented his place at either Spanish club due to on-field performancesand off-field problems, and was recently excluded from manager David Moyes'squad for disciplinary reasons. Messi has scored an unprecedented 72 goals in all competitions this season, including a league record 50. "It's indisputable, he's the best (player in the world) and he deserves another Ballon d'Or," Barcelona teammate Isaac Cuenca said onThursday. http://www.sportlive...al-abuse-claims Edited May 11, 2012 by Redray
Tosh Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I am reading a book at the moment called "The Age of Absurdity - why modern life makes it hard to be happy" and last night I read this little passage and thought of our friend Mr Evra... "The age of entitlement does not seek character, which demands obligation, but identity, which demands rights. Identity can be sought in money, status or celebrity but is most easiy conferred by belonging to a group - usually based on ethnicity, race, religion or sexual orientation. The group will be especially attractive if it can claim to have suffered some injustice. Then it's members can be victims and enjoy the luxury of having someone else to blame"
Ostrich Man Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 hmmm you could put that on nearly everything though....and that certainly includes Liverpool fans.
