épieur Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 It's been kinda overlooked because they've been serially trounced by Barcelona over the past 3 years, but what a f***ing team they have. They are absolutely devastating going forwards. Gonna make the statement while I still can, but they have to be one of the best sides ever to not have won a major trophy. Credit to Mourinho - he took a team that had already broken the record for most points ever in one season in la liga (bad luck for them really, that Barca got even more points) and managed to make them an even better outfit. Having huge funds or not - making that transition from a great outfit to an even better one is one of the most difficult feats in football. At the moment, they look like the luxury upgrade of our 08/09 team. They just steamroller teams with strong organisation in both attack and defence and overwhelming pace and quality in their play that teams just can't live with.

épieur Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 Oops, meant to post this in the general football forum.
Swipe Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 They are frightening on the counter. So quick and direct.
Hassony Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 although Ronaldo is a ridiculesly brilliant footballer , Real aren't as reliant on him as Barca are with Messi
Eskimo Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 although Ronaldo is a ridiculesly brilliant footballer , Real aren't as reliant on him as Barca are with Messi Something like a 100 goals spread between Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain
Hassony Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Something like a 100 goals spread between Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain how does that compare with Suarez, Carroll and Downing?
épieur Posted April 25, 2012 Author Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Something like a 100 goals spread between Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain They've already broken the record for most goals scored in one league season. If they win their remaining four games, they break Barca's record of most points in one season. Just looked up the goals between them - Higuain and Benzema have scored 54 goals between them. Ronaldo adds another 54 goals to that tally. Edited April 25, 2012 by epieur
Swipe Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 (edited) Something like a 100 goals spread between Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuain Saw that stat the other day. Unreal. Still much prefer Barca and I really do dislike Madrid and mourinho, but can't argue with the team he's put together. As a squad I think it could well be the best ever assembled. They've no real weaknesses. Although, with the amount it cost to assemble, there would be no excuse if it did. Edited April 25, 2012 by Swipe
Raj Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Although, with the amount it cost to assemble, there would be no excuse if it did. This is a key point. They have spent fortunes. Think I read that in one game their bench had over £170 million of players on the bench.
Hassony Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 they had to spend that much to overhaul this barca team btw, who would people prefer to be the next liverpool manager, Rafa, Guardiola or Mourinho my choice would be Guardiola, then Rafa
Swipe Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 This is a key point. They have spent fortunes. Think I read that in one game their bench had over £170 million of players on the bench. Unreal. Although City have shown its not just about spending money (they may still win the league but they're hardly formidable). Then again, Real are probably still the most attractive club in the world for any potential target. £170m on the bench. Dear God!
yellow jumper Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 less to admire about them in that sense anyway. they're man city+. and that's before you even get into the mourinho circus. and the fact that they so readily descended to the alehouse tactics against barca during the three years they couldn't get near them. very good team though, obviously.
Stevie H Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 they're the most expensively-assembled team in football history. they f***ing should be quite good. don't particularly see much laudable about them myself.

The football they play is laudable no matter how much money they spent. They are operating within their means, so I don't think they can really be criticised the way City and Chelsea can.

They get bailed out all the time.
Gambit Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Considering the money they have spent and the players they have bought, they have woefully underachieved since the start of the 2nd galactico era. Barca are slipping, that's the only reason why Mourinho has caught up with them.

Hassony Posted April 25, 2012 Posted April 25, 2012 Barca are slipping, that's the only reason why Mourinho has caught up with them. that's not really true looking at the number of points Real are likely to achieve this season
