Nerik Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Heskey-Litmanen were outstanding that day. If we could get Carroll-Suarez to work at such a level more regularly we'd be quite formidable at times
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Fantastic atmosphere. Heskey was unplayable that night.
Nerik Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 He was indeed. Also Litmanen's intelligence on the ball was a joy to behold. Murphy had a good game too.
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Thing with Jari is he was technically excellent but lacked the work ethic that modern coaches demand. Can understand why he didn't feature as much despite the clamour for him to play reguarly.
Earl Hafler Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Totti was superb as ever outside of his backyard.
Nerik Posted April 12, 2012 Author Posted April 12, 2012 More to do with his injuries hampering him whenever he seemed to get a good run of form. Still, he should have been used more often, especially when Heskey went off form.
madaboutlfc Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 was there and the atmosphere played as big a part..
épieur Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 (edited) Thing with Jari is he was technically excellent but lacked the work ethic that modern coaches demand. Can understand why he didn't feature as much despite the clamour for him to play reguarly. I think it was more of a fitness issue for him. I never saw an unwillingness to show for the ball in him. And even though there may have been some just causes for him not playing all the time, Ged still didn't use him enough. A classic case of coaching analytics getting in the way of recognising what his superior ability added to our side regardless of it. Edited April 12, 2012 by epieur
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I meant in terms of ground covered, yardage and all that rubbish.
Davvo Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Fantastic atmosphere. Heskey was unplayable that night. Yeah, and I still hold him personally responsible for my torn patella tendon during the mayhem after the 2nd goal. 20 minutes of sheer f***ing agony spent virtually horizontal across 2 mates in the lower centenary. Still, no way I was leaving that atmosphere.
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Yeah, and I still hold him personally responsible for my torn patella tendon during the mayhem after the 2nd goal. 20 minutes of sheer f***ing agony spent virtually horizontal across 2 mates in the lower centenary. Still, no way I was leaving that atmosphere. I had the worst spec ever at the back of the Anny upper tier. Could just about see the header. Great night, we all thought Ged was the one.
Cam Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Possibly the highlight in my 19 seasons of going. Every. Single. Second. Mattered. I came out with a headache due to "Allez Allez".
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Just watched the full highlights and we really did plays some good stuff. Murphy and Gerrard in CM were excellent, with Vladi, Emile and Jari buzzing about up front. Where was the medal thief? Injured?
anfieldgaz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Ahhhh Litmanen.Even the main stand was rocking. Are you sure? As I'm sure I couldn't see it from the kop that night? :-)))))) Just watched the full highlights and we really did plays some good stuff. Murphy and Gerrard in CM were excellent, with Vladi, Emile and Jari buzzing about up front. Where was the medal thief? Injured? I watched LFC tv the other day and I could t believe how many good and important goals Danny scored for us to be fair?
Epic Swindle Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 I watched LFC tv the other day and I could t believe how many good and important goals Danny scored for us to be fair? Did he score that many? His lack of pace seemed to the main issue when I spoke to people but he could pass a football. He was the Charlie Adam of his day.
anfieldgaz Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Good set pieces too from Murphy.Yep he scored a few against the scum!
Clay Davis Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Thought Smicer was great that night too. Was an unreal performance, that. Team full of footballers.
JRC Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Fantastic atmosphere. Heskey was unplayable that night. And against possibly the best CH in world football at the time, Samuel; he absolutely monstered him all night.
Malcolm Bliss Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 Developed a soft spot for Capello after this match. His reaction when Houllier came out was one of real surprise and happiness.
Cam Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 The pre-match buzz about the match added to it all - the whole "is he, isn't he?" confusion. Unconfirmed sightings on the coach, back entrances, the club refusing to admit he was in da house. I think John Keith on Merseyside & Beecroft on Talksport said he definitely wasn't whereas Easton on City said "someone who looked a lot like him just hugged me".
Nerik Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 That was the week when GH delivered a speech to the team and they were convinced that they'd win the league. We were close that year. Even the CL was a real possibility before we subbed off Didi away to Leverkusen.
RafaShanks Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I went to this game and the the atmosphere was just electric. One of the best I've ever experienced. Ged rumours were rife before kick off. Then he magically appeared. Lost my voice for a couple of days after. That was a great Roma team we put to the sword. Our team wasn't bad either. We should have won the CL that season as well. Sad to see in a way when you compare it to the one dimensional team we have at the moment. We had proper footballers.
