Epic Swindle Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQENhZfRLoA One of the most underrated players of the last 10 years for me and I'd consider him one of the archetypal 'hole' players. Remember him tearing us apart.
Kahnee Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Can we add the 'Genny' rule of tacking NOT DEAD to thread titles such as these? Ta
kop205 Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 Cracking player. Think that the sheer brilliance of Messi has meant that people now tend to scoff a bit at some of those who went before who got the 'new Maradona' tag. He obviously wasn't that but he was a very good player in his own right.
Romario Posted March 24, 2012 Posted March 24, 2012 RIP big man. Gone but not forgotten.Wasn't Ariel Ortega the "new maradona" at some stage too?
jimbolala Posted March 25, 2012 Posted March 25, 2012 He could also look out for himself, i remember he nearly broke salif diao's leg . You wouldnt have thought he stood a chance against him but he messed him up. Crazy
épieur Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Wasn't Ariel Ortega the "new maradona" at some stage too? Think he was far more of a 'new maradona' than Aimar was. Aimar was a gifted playmaker with great technique, but not the involved dribbling busybody Ortega and Maradona were. Ortega really should have been a much better player. Amazing talent. His partnership with Montella at Sampdoria was ace if only for a brief while. That goal Montella scored against Inter where Ortega rockets a cross from the byline straight into Montella's head in a crowded area still stands out in my mind. Quality. IIRC, Ortega scored a beaut himself in that game too.

If memory serves that was probably what stopped him becoming one of the world's best players. The closest to Ortega now is probably Lavezzi.
