Tosh Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Very impressive tonight holding but keeping it very simple
Cooldude Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Love him Better passer of a football than Adam. Sorry for all the pot shots at Adam, but it's true
Epic Swindle Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Never lets us down Jay. Still think he's better when he has to go chasing than sitting as he can get sucked in at times.
Logic Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 Love him Better passer of a football than Adam. Sorry for all the pot shots at Adam, but it's trueSpearing should have Adam's place in the squad IMO. Simply a better footballer.
MFletcher Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Not good enough as our only back-up to Lucas. We still need to sign this player in the summer.
Tosh Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Am I allowed to repeat that he reminds me of Scholes? Maybe it's his height....
WillG Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Quality player who, in my opinion, is inhibited by his current role. Great shift tonight!
Maldini Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 He's not a defensive midfielder, his positioning isn't good enough. Playing alongside one, pressing the play and keeping the ball moving is his game.
RBM Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Massively overrated because he's local. He's an alright squad player but shouldn't be anywhere near a first team regular when everybody is fit. Did alright tonight, as did everybody.
CarraLegend Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Real good player, and still learning. Shame some still cant admit they got him wrong though!
Logic Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 He's not a defensive midfielder, his positioning isn't good enough. Epic Swindle Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Massively overrated because he's local. Think the opposite is true, the fact he's homegrown means he's had to prove himself that bit more. Don't think he'll ever be a first choice if we get the players we want but I'd rather have him in reserve than paying over the odds for someone to sit on the bench.

Many seem to think the only thing he can do is Work Hard™. He's a good footballer who knows when to keep it simple and when to be more ambitious.
épieur Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) He's not a defensive midfielder, his positioning isn't good enough. Playing alongside one, pressing the play and keeping the ball moving is his game. Although true, it is getting less true. Think he has been slowly improving his positioning over the past few months. wrote in the match thread: he is positive in his passing, not shy of hitting wide over 20 yards when he needs to and moves the ball with pace. Don't think he gets enough credit for his distribution. Edit: I think he is a defensive midfielder by virtue of the fact that we can play him there and he can have good games and provide proper shape to the team, which is more than can be said for anyone else we have bar Lucas. He maybe doesn't have the ideal game for the holding role, but he does a job there. Edited March 13, 2012 by epieur

He's better than I ever thought he was going to be, but he's not as good as some make out. If he can add a bit of positional intelligence to his game, he'll be more effective. More reliable than Adam on current form though. But we need better quality than what he offers Edited March 13, 2012 by Rushiesbushymoustache
floyd the barber Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 did well tonight , so credit to him for that...BUT hes nowhere near good enough, we need far better cover for lucas

RafaShanks Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Jay should be starting every game. Said this for fecking months.
Raj Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Massively overrated because he's local. He's an alright squad player but shouldn't be anywhere near a first team regular when everybody is fit. Did alright tonight, as did everybody. I agree with your first part, but thought he actually played pretty well tonight
Epic Swindle Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 did well tonight , so credit to him for that...BUT hes nowhere near good enough, we need far better cover for lucas If he was nowhere near good enough he'd be out of his depth in games like tonight and he clearly isn't. If you mean he's not good enough to play in the CL for Barca, blah, blah, blah, you're probably right.
Farmer's Tan Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 He did well, should definitely keep his place in front of Adam. He passed well covered well didn't give it away much if at all, basically the complete opposite of what Adam has been doing for awhile now.
WillG Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Massively overrated because he's local. Nonsense... and that's one word more than that post deserved!
Logic Posted March 13, 2012 Author Posted March 13, 2012 EPL Index Jay Spearing made the most passes for #LFC - 54, he was also their most accurate passer: 89%.
RBM Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) Overrated? Many seem to think the only thing he can do is Work Hard™. He's a good footballer who knows when to keep it simple and when to be more ambitious. He's average, not the level required for a regular first teamer. Useful to have as a fill in squad player.
