One of my top three players ever to play for us. Absolute legend and should have had much more credit when playing for us.

He wasn't short of praise or plaudits, class act but top 3 is pushing it a fair bit.

Yep, agree he's not even in our top 3 centre-halfs but your right he was a class act.

 

 

I think part of his allure was he followed a desperate decade of defending,he was like an oasis in the desert.

Nah, he was top class and would have featured in any of the great Liverpool sides. Great guy as well, one of the best.

No said any different, but he isn't in the 3 best players we've ever had. It's not a criticism.

Think sometimes though you associate with a player for personal reasons, they can be one of your top 3 favourites without necessarily have being one of the top 3 best.

 

I feel that way about Sami, one of my all time faves for a number of reasons.

Hanson-Thommo were the best partnership ever in terms of best defence and least goals conceded. Hyppia was the bedrock of a lot of our great defences post 1999.

to be fair the guy said one of his top three players and we have different favourites for different reasons so having Sami in that seems prefectly reasonable

Which 3 were better and how many of them have you seen play yourself?

 

Hansen and Lawrenson seen.

 

Sami would have been third on who i've seen play.

 

I leave it to older heads to decide if any from the 60s and 70s were better.

Sami and Hansen were the best I've ever seen for us. Thommo and Emlyn were definitely behind them in my mind.

I think you do disservice to Lawrenson. I know he comes across as a thundercvnt, but he was some player.

Phil Thompson and Tommy Smith were better players in my opinion. I was too young to call it with Yeats.

 

Hansen and Lawrenson stand out, the latter being an absolute c*nt of a man makes Leo's point perfectly though. I met Sami, TWICE, it was an honour.

His post playing career has completely clouded my opinion of him.

 

Got to disagree with Murph though. Thommo maybe (big maybe). Tommy definitely not.
