The game has stooped to a new low when we see clear proof that players are "coached" on getting a penalty, geting an opponent booked and conning the officials. The fault lies with an impotent FA who are s*** scared to do anything about the problem.

 

I think it was Stuart Robson during the Arsenal game who kept complaining about the Arsenal "yelps" as they went down after a tackle, purely for the sake of getting the ref's attention.

 

These diving cheats should watch Messi, he gets the s*** kicked out of him, and 95% of the time gets up without a word and just plays on.

One of those 'yelps' is what got Jay Spearing sent off against Fulham.

 

The only way to prevent it is to ensure it doesn't pay- retrospective and harsh punishments for diving being the only way - whether the ref 'saw' it or not.

Completely agree but it would require the FA / FIFA to, you know, do something first, rather than react when they feel like it.

 

It still amazes me that in 2012 a player can elbow someone in the head and not be punished because of a half-arsed excuse that the ref saw it. Yes, i'm talking about Rooney.

 

Also the rule about yellow cards not being suitable for appeal. Are referees really that vain ? I doubt it.

You would hope that, privately, the FA are having words with refs who "miss" or ignore the elbow type incidents.

 

I can see why they don't want yellow card appeals as it would require a 24/7 committee to review all of the appeals.

I absolutely agree in principle, but the problem is that even when you're watching a replay people will have different opinions about what is and isn't a dive. It's not as clear as "has the ball crossed the line - there's still way too much interpretation. And there is also people's existing preconceptions. I bet Suarez would be found guilty of diving all the time. Rooney and Bale, less so, even though they (and many others) are masters at ensuring there is contact from keepers / defenders to make it look like a foul

But Samba is not a cheat — he was the one being fouled. So how do you implement a clampdown on diving in those situations?

 

Last Sunday, when Swansea’s Neil Taylor drove into Tottenham’s penalty area, William Gallas put his hand on his shoulder momentarily to hold him back. Taylor kept going and didn’t get a penalty. But nowhere in the rules does it say you’re allowed to manhandle someone. It doesn’t say it’s OK if it’s only a brief touch or not very hard. It was a foul.
