If this side 'clicks', there is a lot of wins in the squad. I know people are worried about Carroll/Henderson/Downing etc but simply adding Lucas to the side brings out a top side on paper with quality everywhere including the subs bench. That has not been the case for a few seasons now and i'm glad that we have owners who will invest in the cash if and when the need arises. Even our second keeper is pretty good (even though he's probably leaving !).

Maybe its just the cup + alcohol talking, but it seems that we do have quality in most if not all areas now. Shame about Lucas being out till next season.

Just looked at our remaining league fixtures. We really could win all of them. Will need to hit a higher goals to chances ratio though.

I think we're 4 players away from a title winning squad; two quality wingers, a world class midfielder and a centre forward. At some stage over the next year or two we need to look at pre-emptively replacing Gerrard too.

id agree with that.

dont get me wrong, i dont want to criticise what we did today. But the fact still remains that we actually didnt play very well against an average championship side.

our whole team lack pace in attack. I dont mean men that can run quickly, i mean more the level of intensity that we play at. Our midfield get the ball and pass it slowly too often, then the whole attack just moves along at a snails pace.

obviously with the level of players we have we'll win a fair few games, but we really should be moving the ball and the attackers a lot more quickly than we do.

im not going to get carried away by one cup victory, because the fact remains we're still miles behind a consistant threat in the league

I can relax now.

We just need to keep progressing, there's no quick fix. That win will have helped add a bit more steel for when it matters.

we are still unable to put teams away when we have so much possession.

we still fail to get bodies in the box, and if I was Downing, I'd be livid with our 2 forwards and the midfield players for not doing more with the stuff he delivered.

we are still too slow in our build up play, we had chances to break out and we held things up long enough for Cardiff to get back.

all tha tbeing said, it's nice to have a trophy on the shelf already and a place in the 2nd tier of Europe sewn up in February.

Its well know by all that we are s**** at getting players inside the box and around the danger area, but t praise the balls Downing puts in most of the time...? Their f***ing lofty s***ty balls even I could defend, he needs to whip them in at pace.

Be nice to enjoy winning things without these miserable a*** internet managers and tacticans with ridiculously high expectations turning their nose up at real silverware and telling us what we need to win the title as though they're an authority on the subject. We haven't won it for 20 odd years and we have no devine right to it anymore. It's not just about signing players, the mentality needs to change and days like today go a long way to helping that.

I think that's what Henderson and Shelvey are for

Is that with respect to the original post?

Think you've misunderstood me. I'm mentioning the quality of personnel including quantity in our squad right now. Back then we were managed by one of the top managers in the world who made our team punch above its weight consistently even though we had obvious holes numbers-wise. I'm not talking about winning the league or trophies either. Its more about the owners, this one.

Well ...

We need a s***load of shooting practice...fix our horrible

finishing and we'd be walking away with the league...errrr yeah I'm not drunk, but just

Look at our games from this season,we have made the most chances and had the most shots in the premiership plus have one of the best defensive records....

We have to be more clinical...henderson,downing,adam,gerrard,Luis,Carroll all guilty....we should be expecting 20goals

from the midfield and 30 from the strikers...that aint happening and alas that is our problem.

I honestly don't care if we get 4th place but will be very happy if the owners supply the funds for the 3 players we really lack to have a real go at the Champions League places next season. We need a a proven goalscorer, a pacy and effective right winger and a very effective playmaker c** schemer/ someone with an eye for a pass and goal operating between midfield and attack.

If we have the money my choices would be Edinson Cavani, Luciano Narsingh and Marek Hamsik to be those 3 players. We also do need a defensive midfielder/holding midfielder as cover and competition to Lucas. Jay is not and will never be good enough.

id agree with that.

Spot on. It's no coincidence why we've only scored 29 league goals and have drawn so many games at home. That first 11 put out yesterday especially the front 6 are no match for the more attack oriented front 6 pairings at City, United, Spurs , Arsenal and Chelsea.

Was thinking bout the exact same thing while watching the game last night. We have some good kids coming up the ranks, Lucas + 2-3 Quality players + talented kids coming through = Exciting times.

I don't understand this. Indifferent to success as long as the owners buy players to get that success next season, seems to be the gist. Weird.

Winning the league, wise up ffs. The midfield at the moment is the worst i have seen at liverpool in a long time, we will finish 6th this season and rightly so.

Yesterday summed our year and performances up, too slow, not enough men in the box and a severe lack of cutting edge. Maybe its the lack of alcohol that makes me think that, but the futhest thing from my mind , after watching that match yesterday was" this team could win the league".

Jim enjoy a f***ing cup win eh we haven't won one for 6 years. To be complaining about the manner of a victory is missing the point a bit.

some prick phoned in to five live's 606 yesterday and said that it was rafa's players that won it, kenny isn't the right manager and we'll never win trophies under him. even though we, like, just had.

did people complain about the istanbul performance in this way?
