London/ Birmingham folk

People, I've checked around the usual spots but a little local knowlwdge is always best.

 

Off to London for work on Wednesday 14th March and being taken to the Chelsea game in the Champions League that night, then it's off to Cheltenham with some firends on the Thursday 15th. Is train the best way to commute from London up to Cheltenham and what are the best sites to book trains/ buses? I'll be going back down to London for the QPR game that weekend.
